Re: [TANGO-L] Teacher - Student relationships

Lois
When someone is in a critical mood, they can always find something to criticize about another. One can even criticize God.

Some followers will damn me for my lead and the next one will praise it. Some women hate my bald head, others think it sexy.

I just bet that there are a lot of people out there who love you just as you are.

Yes, teachers walk a fine line in keeping the community happy about their
actions at dances. I have heard teachers criticized for only dancing with
their students, for not ever dancing with anyone but their partner or the
best dancers, for only dancing with potential students in order to drum up
business, for never coming to dances or not coming to another teacher's
events - it's a wonder that anyone likes teachers at all!

I try to dance with my students, both the men and the women, but I usually
have to ask. I like dancing with new people and beginners, because it helps
me to be a better dancer and teacher. I also try to dance with the other
teachers in town, and my good friends. Oh, yes, and there's the boyfriend.
I'm sure I'm offending someone at every dance.

The one thing I don't like is being asked to teach on the floor. I think it
is incredibly rude to ask a teacher to teach on the sidelines at a dance.
Once a man asked me to "show him something new - just something quick". I
refused, and he has been mad at me ever since, and has certainly never been
to one of my classes.
