Re: [TANGO-L] North American Tango Festival Update

Dear Stephen Brown classifies certain tango events regarding
the teachers-Maestros, this is a tough task to try.
There are other significant characteristics of "tango festival" and "tango
congress".
-Who is target crowd (nationwide or regional, close embrace or salon etc.)
-How long does it runs? (2 days or longer) )
-training or dancing oriented
- any musicians? DJs?
-What level of publicity (in a hotel, or local dance venues)
-What's its purpose?
As Tom mentioned how much does it cost $$$

there might be more criteria i cannot think at the moment.

Another issue with the drastic differences between American Tango Festivals
and European Tango Festivals.

The Taxonomy of Tango events is a difficult topic to cover!
for instance *TangoJoven* *2006* festival is being designed to run 5 days
(June 30-July 04) in Minneapolis.
some features;
-outdoor concert milonga by the lake (FREE) w/ 900 seated amphitheater
- milonga on the beach (FREE) (the only festival with beach milonga in
Americas)
- FREE milonga and shows by guest and local artists in the largest shopping
mall in United States Mall of America www.moa.org
- the faculty includes 6 teaching couples with unique dance and teaching
styles, 6 performing couples
- 3 guided practicas with the faculty, 4 milongas
- Festival DJs are All FEMALE- (the only festival on the planet with all
female DJs)
- Tango pedagogy classes ( 2nd phase of SF-Tango exchange )
- DJing classes by the best traditional and alternative DJs in North
America.

This is a new generation tango festival like "Tangos de Los Muertos"
organized by Carlos & Tova Moreno, San Francisco Tango Exchange organized by
Homer Ladas to name few. I believe that classification of tango events will
be more difficult in future, but I don't think hat would be a negative thing
:)

enjoy the diversity in Tango
