Re: [TANGO-L] Kiss of fire
The Belgian superstar Helmut Lotti wrote his own English words to El Choclo.
These will be found on his "Latino Classics" album of 2000:
I hear the music in the streets of Buenos Aires
And I go down the road to find where people play it.
When I arrive I see the lovers dance a tango
And what I never heard before, their bodies say it.
I feel the music and I see the lovely lady -
The kind of music that can make a man go crazy -
She's dancing all her cares away:
She'll dance forever and a day;
For every tango tells the story of her soul.
Because the tango, it moves like burning fire:
It shows the secret passion, the power of desire.
And when she dances, it will always take her higher -
The tango rhythm is the rhythm of her heart.
I want to to tango . . . . . .
The dance of fire . . . . .
To feel the beating of the heart of Argentina
I have to dance with that senorita.
I want to tango . . . . .
Tango Argentino . . . .
One single tango with the lovely senorita -
A souvenir of Argentina in my heart.
The lines that start "I want to tango" and the ones immediately following
have no words in the second half. Only the orchestra plays.
Kullervo wrote Finnish words in 1952, under the title "Tulisuudelma", which
means Kiss of Fire:
Sun tulisuudelmasi tdhden aatos entdd
nyt onneen, kipindt kun silmissdni lentdd.
Tuo huultes kuuma valhe uskoa mun tdytyy,
sun tules liekeissd kun syddmeni rdytyy.
Sd lailla soihdun toit min sieluhuni liekin,
se vaikka onnesta nyt murheesen viekin.
Ja tuolta katkeralta tieltd mind joskaan
en palaa koskaan, niin ldhden kuitenkin.
En tultas kestdd md saata turha koittaa
on tunteitani voittaa; en onnistu md lainkaan.
Sit en voi estdd, oi miksi suukkos sainkaan?
Sun orjas oon ja aina orjaksesi jddn!
Vaan sddlimddn en pyyddkddn.
Siks jdlleen huules mulle hetkiseksi lainaa,
tuo muisto mieltdni vaik huomenna jo painaa.
Sun tuli suudelmassas onni mua kohtaa,
se myvskin johtaa mun turmioon.
