[TANGO-L] Tango fusion/electronic & Tango ITOFW

Dear friends from tango list

I have been listening this days to some material of tango fusion/electronic , such as Tanghetto, Supervielle ( the new CD of Bajofondo tango group) and Narcotango from Libedinsky. They are not bad , they just sound different , and there will be needed a waiting period to see wether this experiences are just that , experiences, or if they continue into an alternate style for tango music. There is a feeling of a loss in belonging , certain uneasiness of this music that has part of eerie, part of being from a land that is still out of reach .

I remember an experience that a radio DJ made several years ago in USA . His experience was called " Music on a long thin wire " . He just got a metal wire, and hold it tense with two holders. Then apply magnetos to the sides of the wire, to produce random sounds due to the attraction of the wire to the magnetos and the bending of the wire , that produce a sound , recorded live for the audience. This last a day and a night , and there were calls of people saying they heard chorus of voices like angels, music, patterns ,etc..etc.. This was electronic experiences , and maybe some of this tango electronic/fusion, are also experiences.

                                          ******
Now, talking about Tango ITOFW , in the old fashion way . I listened to the CD "El arranque" from the group of the same name. I do not know this CD , just by chance last saturday at La Viruta milonga, the DJ Horacio Godoy send a tanda with this music and gave me the information of this material.

This group has a piano/keyboad player, a bass, two violins , two bandoneons,. an electric guitar/other guitars player and a singer . Later CDs have the singer changed, also one of the bandonions ( I think he went with Erica Di Salvo group )

Now, talking about this group El Arranque, do you think that it is possible to play "Canaro en Paris " different that we are accustomed to listen ?? Well ,. they do , they keep the pattern of the music, but here and there , little variations, some chords of a guitar, some violin solos, even some pauses , but all the performance is outstanding . They just know how to play together . So maybe this is other possibility , to annalyze the "old" tangos and to see wether is possible an arrangement different from the usual that we are accustomed to listen and to dance.

There are other tangos to remark in this CD , "Recuerdo " for instance, has the Pugliese flavour , but there is something from them , something that is related to the commitment of the artists as interpeters , many hours of rehearse , until the instruments of this musical group fit together like a glove to a hand.

And there is a sense of belonging here, that is not only local, there is something related to the dance , and the dance floors ,and the milongas and the people at the milongas wherever/whenever/whoever they are .

I know I sound enthusiastic about El Arranque, but they are good and have kept good for this years since they start as the first promotion of Orquesta Escuela de Tango project, so Maestro Emilio Balcarce can be proud of his "tango siblings".

Warm regards
