Nobility, my ***.
Manuel may be right, that tango has become "sanitized" in some areas and
communities. On the other hand I believe that there is something
"tantalizing" in it for some people just because of it's origins.
Two fond memories of mine. Both happened at the same practica:
1) My German girlfriend, who had also started to learn the tango, one day
told my Japanese "classmates": "When I dance tango, I imagine that I am an
Argentine prostitute, doing the moves." Everybody was aghast. They had never
spent any time time studying the history of what they were doing.
2) The mother of another friend in that class came over from Argentina to
see her son. When I asked her: "Would you like to join us practising ?" she
answered: "I do not dance tango. I do not know where this dance came from
and I don't think I want to know."
Keep practising, you guys ; )
