milonguita y milonguera
List
Let me share with you as an Argentinean Spanish speaker some thoughts on
this discussion.
Milonguita we say to the young woman that went from the neighborhood to
downtown. She change the percal for the silk. She choose the fancy life of
cabaret. Night life, many man. Sad life. Tragedy of the Poor's.
Milonguera had similar meaning but also some differences. When I was a child
if any woman was call milonguera, means she did not have very good
reputation. Again, too much nigh, different guys all the time...a lot of
gossip (poor people social control).
So, today, because the Americans and the Europeans are reinventing our
tango, both milonguera and milonguita got new significance. So, if you like
to call yourself milonguita (I saw car plaques with that nickname...well,
enjoy it, but remember that for the old Argentineans means that your chose
the wrong way in life, and please do not go to BA and say that you are a
milonguita...please!!!
