Re: Recording Technology and Concert Tango

Hi all,

As usual, Steve has posted provocative and interesting thoughts.

It's safe to assume that change (per se) is a constant... in musical
tastes for mass marketed entertainment as well as in technology. The
impetus for this change might be a question for an economist (ahem):
Did the orchestras change as a result of a constituency with an appetite
for novelty or did the musicians' quest for individuality lead the
musical evolution and if the public wanted tango, they could have it -
as long as it was orchestrated. Were the dancers in charge of the
musical evolution or were they it's victims? I'm given to understand
that the whole relationship was perhaps too fragile to withstand an
offshore tidal wave surfed by the likes of Little Richard and Carl
Perkins. What *IS* the relationship between evolution and revolution?
