Orquesta Tipica Mystery

Dan Boccia inquired about the break-up of the tango band known as
"Orquesta Tipica Victor" & also regarding the confusion of the track
listings on the "El Bandoneon" EBCD-85.

Orquesta Tipica Victor was formed in 1925 strictly for recording purposes
only, & for the famous record label RCA Victor by its then artistic
director Adolfo Carabelli, who was also a pianist. Only top-rated
musicians were recruited to record with the group during its 19 years
existence until its final break-up in May of 1944 & after 444 recordings.

Among this elite group of highly talented musicians some of more
well-known names include bandoneonists - Ciriaco Ortiz, Luis Petrucelli,
Carlos Marcucci, & Anibal Troilo; violinists - Elvino Vardaro, Cayetano
Puglisi, Manlio Francia, & Antonio Buglione; pianists - Orlando Carabelli
& Vicente Gorrese; bass player - Humberto Costanzo; and singers - Alberto
Gomez, Francisco Fiorentino, & Roberto Diaz.

Now regarding EBCD-85; this CD was originally released about 4 years ago
as recorded from the years 1926-1940, with most of the recordings from
the 1920`s. About 2 years ago, "El Bandoneon", the manufactuer,
incorrectly issued the same CD but with the wrong cover & track listings.
The track listings on the current EB-85 are actually those of EB-41,
another Orquesta Tipica Victor CD (1925-1934). In other words, the
current EB-85 CD contains the same or the correct track selections as its
original version but the wrong listing & years of the track titles. I
have been trying to get ''El Bandoneon" to correct this mistake for the
past 2 years but to no avail. When any of my customers desires to
purchase this particular CD I explain the problem & if they still want
it, I give them the correct track selections on a separate paper.

Anyways, the correct track titles on EBCD-85 are:
1. Negro (1926)
2. Retintin (1926)
3. Pato (1926)
4. Hilos De Plata (1926)
5. La Payanca (1926)
6. Puente Alsina (1927)
7. Chuzazos (1927)
8. Re Fa Si (1927)
9. De Mi Barrio (1927)
10. Fumando Espero (1927)
11. Julienne (1927)
12. Adios Muchachos (1927)
13. Carta Brava (1927)
14. Che Papusi Oi (1927)
15. Ensueno (1927)
16. Dominio (1928)
17. Viento Norte (1929)
18. Cardos (1931)
19. Como Tigre Cebao (1938)
20. Tango Milonguero (1940)

ALSO, 2 other very good Orquesta Tipica Victor CD`s are from the
"HARLEQUIN" label, & contain very few repeats of what is on the "EL
BANDONEON" CD`s: HQCD-90 (1926-1931), & HQCD-155 (1926-1930). Those of
you desiring the track listings from these 2 CD`s may request them by
e-mail & I`ll be happy to give them to you.

Finally, other noteworthy CD`s related to Orquesta Tipica Victor are:
EB-87 ~ "Cuatro Palabras"/Adolfo Carabelli (1931-1933)
EB-94 ~ "El Violin Mayor Del Tango"/Elvino Vardaro (1928-1943)
EB-57 ~ "Conversando Con El Fueye"/Ciriaco Ortiz (1933-1952)

Best regards always.
