But sometimes I arrive to find it has assumed aspects of a milonga (per their definition). Then I must wait till it once again assumes the feeling of my "baile"--village/neighborhood gathering of loved friends and some others, friendly and casual, my niche that accepts me no matter how I am dressed or dance. In short: home. Shirley

Every week there is some tango personality in town. Some with overlapping dates. People are not interested in not conflicting any more. Those who are afraid of commercialization and competition take note: There are more dancers than ever because there is competion. Like first week in June Miguel Zotto is in town, and there is a "Tango a la Turca" weekend festival. Zotto is a name to watch , but you have Metin Yazir and Daniel Lapadula and belly dancing as competition. I might end up going to both of the milongas. For workshops : harder decision, it's just that some times big names does not produce better workshops. Undecided, I have been wanting to experience Metin since I heard people talk about him so much. Again maybe one of each :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/

Take Metin and you'll get "belly dancing" anyway. :) Huck

Date: Mon, 15 May 2000 20:05:36 -0700 From: Deborah Holm <deborah.holm @PRODIGY.NET> Subject: You guys. OK you guys. I guess I am one of those females that Felix is worried about reading the list. That I won't like tango because of what I read on the list. The fact that there is this level of communication alone would make me even more interested in tango. I like all of the dances and I am not really good at any of them. When I do any of the dances besides Argentine Tango, the guy puts me out with his lead to dance independently with my own balance and swing my hips or whatever to make it hot, like the fire in salsa, or the totally "cool" moves (equally difficult) in swing. In Argentine Tango the guy never puts me out with his lead to do the dance on my own. Since we are always connected, my balance is dependent on his balance. It takes two to tango. If my balance is off, I pull him down in an embarrassment to both of us, and if he is so strong that I can't pull him down by mistake, and he keeps holding me up and my legs are still trying to do the step, do you know what it looks like? Please don't say what it looks like. I think this has to do with something called centrifugal force. Salsa is fun. Tango is sex, and sex is not funny to a proud man. If you are too exhausted to have sex with a proud man then you are not supposed to even try. Because if you are too exhausted to make sure that every second of a three minute dance is not spent paying attention to only him and the music (don't you EVER think of ANYTHING but him and the music) then you will be lucky to be told that you simply made a mistake, and not more. You will be lucky that he only punishes you a little bit, because you didn't know better. Deborah B.A. Tango
