Subject: Hiring a milonguero in Buenos Aires
Steve Brown wrote:
If the milonguero (or milonguera) is
known to accompany foreigners to milongas for pay, dancing with the hired
partner will do little to establish a newcomer's reputation as dancing well.
Women also need to watch out that they are not identified as the hired
dancer's regular partner and are, therefore, offlimits to other milongueros.
No one will or has to know the milonguero's business relationship with a
woman. It may last for only one night for her to put her best foot forward
in the milonga. It's up to her.
Once a woman is seen in a milonga dancing with a well-known milonguero, she
gets a "seal of approval" and will then be asked to dance by others in the
room.
This arrangement does not necessitate the milonguero sitting at the woman's
table. On the contrary, she will sit alone and look to him when she wants
to dance. It will therefore not be obvious to anyone in the milonga that he
is her partner for the night, so to speak.
