As a matter of fact, I wasn't telling YOU to shut up, on the contrary, I actually started to miss your contributions, which I enjoyed long before I ever joined this list, and in my mind had you included in the people remaining silent. I didn't realize you had all along been enjoying that discussion. And yes, I actually do have a question about that shoes subject, that you chose as an exemple for boring topics, so feel welcome to skip the rest. I am one of those people with a pair of shoes by "the famous Alberto", who seems to be totally unknown to those who are selling their own shoes. They are order made in colour, leather, shape and height of heel, and he makes a special dummy for every customer fitting the exact form of the foot. They do have this curious metal plate (Veronica laughed when I told her of Sang's question and said she will be famous because of that silly piece of metal), and the purpose is to protect the shoes while the dancer walks down the streets of Buenos Aires on her way to the Milonga. (Argentinians don't bring their shoes in a bag). I can dance very nimbly in them but my feet do hurt afterward. She sais, Alberto is the shoemaker who makes the shoes for her professor in Argentina. Anybody ever heard of Alberto ? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

When following milonguero style (on the body), one teacher told me that I carry a lot of tension in my body, and need to relax more. I suspect it's because I am still finding confidence in my balance, as I have only been dancing for a year and a half. Followers (or leaders!), have you encountered this problem and if so, how have you overcome it? Leaders, how would you describe the ideal feeling of relaxation v. resistance you hope to get from a woman? Look forward to your thoughts.

Your could do it walking or with a figure such as the "basic". Get in tango position. Take one step. Pause ... find your balance and check your posture. Relax. Let your breath out and release the tension from your shoulders, arms, etc. Find a solid connection with the ground and with your partner. Take the next step. Etc.... When you have practiced this at very slow tempo, try it with music (like DiSarli), stepping and relaxing on alternate beats. The more you practice this exercise, the more you should be able to stay relaxed without thinking about it. Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 21:42:01 EDT From: Rico Lombard <ricolombard @HOTMAIL.COM> Subject: Tango's growth or death US After seeing some recent comments I felt it necessary to comment on the problems we have in America with our tango communities. We spend all of our energy trying to be cliqish like the Argentines. Most of us will spend very little time in BA and those who do always complain about their bad experience's. Some talk about tango orgasms here and there, learning where to dance and how to approach the situation. These are wonderful stories and might help someone enjoy their tango trip, however, some of the rules that work in BA are not helpful in the growth of our tiny communities. People are forever complaining about the lack of dancers at milongas. Loosen up people none of you are as great as you think. Ladies deciding not to dance with a guy just because it not tangasmic is the first step towards the disbanding of our small dance groups. Have you ever noticed milongas that don't exits anymore, and you saying where will I go,what will I do,there are no places to dance my beloved tango. We can't afford to act to much like the Argentines, who have countless thousands of partners and tango bars to choose from. Their tango edicate is not useful here at all. I would suggest telling these bigginers that you will dance a set per night with them untill they get better and not more. I know it is difficult to have these geeky tango PHDs bothering you all night just because you said yes once. They need encouragement but also to understand where they are skill wise. How many men and women have left tango because they have sat all night without a single dance. SHAME ON THE AMERICAN TANGO COMMUNITY FOR ADOPTING THE WORST OF BA TANGO CRAP. Is it really that painful to dance with an average dancer once a night. Well I am used to better (you tell yourself) so I can not lower myself to be associated with those of lesser quality. We do not have a tango support system for men to learn to be great leaders before they ever go to a milonga and ask a lady for dance. So the rules are completely different in America. Women are incharge of tango growth in the US they can make or break our small communities. We men could do so much more to make the ladies experience a gentle and melodic moment. I did neglect to mention that men are also playing the BA game in america and searching for tangasmic moments. My teachers have informed me that only occassionally do they experience the perfect passion at a milonga and it takes the right Music, lighting, and moment for that to occur. I seems in tango that people all use the same buzz words to show their status in the tango world even if they can't dance they can talk as though they are know it all.
