I tried to figger out whether CNBC Europe also broadcasts the
documentary only to find that NG Explorer is not for Europeans. :-(
On the other hand I found that it will be broadcast TWICE on Sunday,
at 8pm E.T. and at 11pm E.T.!
So here is my offer to anyone planning to record the Duvall
documentary: The first one to email me volunteering to record it for
me too (without having to give up the own recording) and later send me
the tape will in turn receive from me a NICE Tango CD of European
production (negotiable)!!!
Tempted?????
I hope so!
Peter
B.T.W., NTSC is fine with me, there is no choice anyhow.

I would also be interested in a recording of this program (possibly in
exchange for something that we can negotiate? Anyone interested in a
norwegian Tango contact with IT skills? :-)
NTSC is fine with me too.
Please e-mail me if you could be interested in a deal.

Anders

Subject: Re: Tango Congress of Miami Beach May 1st to May 6th, 2000
Dear List:
Jorge Navarro has suggested that I have omitted the Tango Shoe availability.
Thanks are in order to Mr. Navarro for reminding me.
I apologize to the list for omitting the fact that a line of Tango Shoes
will be available at the Fourth Annual Tango Congress of Miami Beach ,
May1st to 6th, 2000. Attendees come from all parts of the globe to learn, and
to meet new friends, renew old acquaintances and of course, to dance the
night away at the nightly milongas.
I have had a marvelous response to my offer earliler this week, to
personally provide Tango Congress brochures giving details of the event. I
still have a supply of brochures available to Tangueros and Tangueras who are
interested in attending this fascinating Tango
event in Miami Beach, South Florida, USA. It is a great place to combine a
vacation with a Tango learning experience. Those Listeros who have already
provided me with their mailing address have been sent the 7 page brochure
giving details of the upcoming Tango Event in early May 2000. It is a
beautiful brochure and will come to you absolutely free of obligations and
of course, cost free to you. (it's synonomous as Stuart would say!) Those
of you who have not yet provided me with your address should do so now if
you are interested in attending this year's congress in Sunny Florida in
early May 2000. Do not wait till the last minute and be disappointed. We
will always find room for more attendees at the Congress. It is the hotel
that you must be sure of that has accommodations during the winter season
when all the snowbirds are descending on Miami Beach to escape the wintery
weather where they come from .
Thanks again to Jorge Navarro for reminding me that there is a very
stylish line of dance shoes that will be available at the upcoming
congress. I would not buy shoes through the mail. Wait and try them on to
be sure they fit.
The ladies' shoes have built-in ochos. :-) The mens' shoes come with a
built-in device that enables the men to lead their ochos better. ;-) When
you purchase them you must specify whether you prefer forward or backward
ochos. All at reasonable prices. While you are in attendance be sure to
watch for this very stylish line of footwear made especially for Tango
dancers. We have ordered an extra supply of ochos especially for this event
to sell with the shoes..
Ask me for the brochure. I have sent out 22 brochures concerning the May
1st to 6th, 200, Tango Congress. Please watch for their arrival in your
mail! (No one has requested further info about the Tango shoes!) Our
research and development department is working on the boleo inserts but they
are not yet perfected. :-)
Sincerely,
Arturo

I was so surprised to see a photo in Jorge's website that looks so much
like the one in my catalog that I believe may have even been scanned
from my catalog. It is especially interesting as it is a shoe I designed
especially for my line. They say imitation is the sincerest form of
flattery and perhaps I should feel flattered that my designs are good
enough to be knocked off. I don't.
On the other hand, I do know that competition is a good thing. And I
wish Jorge luck with his business. I will be interested to hear from
people who are able to compare the quality of the shoes with those from
Tara Design. So, to all my wonderful customers...if you're going to
Miami for Jorge's event, please do me a favor and check out these shoes.
Then let us all know how they compare.

Subject: Re: [Dancing to Live Music] and Ernesto Carmona
One of the best live orchestras to dance to, in my expereince, is "Los
Ryes del Tango".
They were one of the 4 featured orchestras at last year's CITA and will
be there again this year. They have 4 bandoneons and play D'Arienzo style=
with
that unmistakable ritmo and an incredible feeling of happiness.
The "Sexteto Mayor" delighted us all at the CITA as well, but their
music is best suited for stage rather than a milonga athmosphere. I look
forward to experiencing the "Las Gente de Tango", who play Di Sarli style=
, and
the "Color Tango" - Pugliese style.
I don't know much about the "Sexteto Sur" who will also be playing at
the CITA. Maybe someone can share their knowledge about that orchestra.
On another subject, I've seen the video from the first Jorge Nel's Tango
Congress, which shows Ernesto Carmona (with his long hair in a pony tail)=
dancing with his partner. I could not beleive that these were "profession=
al"
teachers from Argentina. Later on, I found out that Carmona was a last mi=
nute
replacement for the no-show Gloria and Eduardo.
Cheers to all,
Sharon.

Subject: Arthur Greenberg's Post
Dear Mr. Greenberg and the TANGO-L:
For your information, Jorge Nel Giraldo, has taken up a new partnership and
associate. Her name is Mara Carlson from Arizona. Mr. Giraldo announced
this new partnership at Gauchos Cafe in Miami a couple of months ago during a
dinner affair there. Furthermore, he has been announcing this new
partnership everywhere he goes. At Roberto Maiolo's Friday milonga in Coral
Gables, FL. he made the same announcement several weeks ago, in fact, the
rumors go that Mara moved from Arizona to Miami and he married her for
whatever reasons.
Mr. Greenberg, you should get better informed from "your friend."
I am a new member of this list but have been following all the happenings
thru friends and milongas in Miami.
Hi to everyone and I hope and pledge to post truthful messages.
Thank you.

| Peter knows Esteban and Claudia much better than I do, and everything I was
| about to offer about this couple he has already said beautifully. I want to
| add something, as a follower and woman who has worked with Claudia.
|
| I took classes with them for three days last summer at Tangomania
| Summerfestival in Sasso Marconi, Bologna. They are serious, dedicated
| teachers. Claudia worked hard with me on my technique in all the classes, and
| was very demanding, for which I was grateful. More than any other teacher,
| Claudia helped me really improve my giro, which I've been working on for years,
| and it was a breakthrough for me. I would choose her classes, followers, if
| you want to clean up your technique, but you have to let her know you want to
| work.
I have been participating 2 courses of this couple in Sweden
Stockholm with my partner Heini Soutamo. I've also seen the big stars
(Zotto, Arcuri ..) in the last summer's intrernational Tango Festival
in Spain, Valencia.
In any day, I would choose Claudio and Esteban and recommend them highly
to anyone asking for exellent instructors.
Their style is "real tango". The kind of tango that makes you take a
deep breath and say vow! Esteban's leaning position is perfect for the
lady to be able to feel how the lead is evolving. From this position
the figures are always done "together" and it assists in finding the
balance due to close embrace (which you must work hard to get it
right).
Would anyone have their address and contact information, because we would
like to invite them to finland to give a workshop in the future.

I don't know whether Jorge and beautiful Mara are married; they have not made
it my business. I see them working together as dance partners, and I'm happy
for them and wish them the best.
But either way, why would anyone publically question such a couple's motives
for getting married? . . . question that a couple would marry for any reasons
other that the ones the rest of us marry for?: love, compatibility in many
areas of life, sexual attraction, similar ideologies, feeling good being
together, etc., etc.
I think the Tango-L is no place for gossip.
If your point was to say to tell Arthur that MarTa no longer collaborate with
Jorge, I believe she is still his co-organizer for the congress.

Subject: Music which becomes alive in musician's hearts!
Thanks to Tom Stermitz and Judith Farkas for their comments about our
recent Grand Argentine Tango Weekend at the Mercury in Denver, to Dave
Schmitz for the pre announcements on the Tango-A list and his continued
support, and to Marilyn Megenity, a great lady, owner of the Mercury
Cafe, one of the greatest venues in this country for Argentine Tango for
her great support to Argentine Tango music and dance.
Let's us discuss live music, or better yet, "music which is alive"...
music which becomes alive in musician hearts... and then flows straight
into dancers heart! And let's talk about dancing to Piazzolla...
Tom says: "the tremendous dynamic range of a live tango orchestra. The
first time I heard live tango I was blown away by the intensity of the
music."
Shocking it is! That's a comment I hear from many dancers as I go around
playing in AT communities. I can see that by the response to our music,
our audience and dancers response. (yes, we have many who come to just
listen the music alive orchestra and watch the dancers dance).. I have
been delighted to see all of them them applaud, yell, scream and jump of
joy at the conclusion of many of our renditions. Three encores! That is
our real pay!
And certainly the objective of the "music alive" group should be to
bring as Tom said it: "lightening sparking straight into peoples'
hearts"
The hearts of the musicians through their music placed right in between
of the hearts of the dancers. Yes... not disturbing, but making closer
the closed embraced, motivating perfect movements between the two
dancers.
On Piazzolla's music - I find myself that there is no controversy on
Piazzolla versus the Old Guard (Guardia Vieja) music when it comes to
dancing... for musically sensitive dancers. I use Denver as an example.
At times we have done 50-50% Piazzolla and tipical tangos. The floor
remains full all the time when we play. With CD's the room goes to half
full. This is the reverse case of what Arturo Greenberg experienced. So
where is the difference? In musicians hearts and in at least one that
can give his Argnetine Tango spirit to the group.
Sadly, I have recently being told by a musician from another group
playing in milongas, that they want to play for themselves, for their
own enjoyment. I said what about the patrons? What needs to happens with
us, the musicians, is that along with the pleasure of playing our
instruments and music the way we like, we must also give of our spirit
and heart, to those in the audience or in your cases the tangueros at a
milonga. At least that how I feel about.
On the comments of Steven about rhythm drop. I would like to give my
observations on the subject. I see some dancers who would dance
perfectly to the rhythm and the melody (melodies without the rhythmical
accompaniment still have rhythm within). I see others dancing totally
and completely out of step with rhythm, even when the piece is played
D'arienzo style which never drops the rhythm. I would like to invite
tangueros to look at dancers in Denver dance to Piazzolla's slow
milongas, to other pieces with variation on tempo, and as Tom indicated,
to Adios Nonino coming alive. Rhythm and melody are both danceable
whether separate or together. It take a musically trained dancer ear. My
suggestion is for dancers to listen to AT music while you are not
dancing.
Jorge Vernieri. I agree with Manuel on their loss of Jorge Vernieri. He
is the best Argentine Tango pianist, arranger and composer living in the
US. I also miss being close to him since I moved from Atlanta. Florida
dancers: You have a treasure in your community! To hear Jorge's piano
sound you may go to my site indicated at the bottom of this message. The
samples page.
Be looking for a new star! Chritine Brebes of Kansas City. She is a
young and talented violinist who have the true spirit of AT in her
heart. I was first invited by her to start a group there, and since then
I have included her on many of our performances on other cities, and our
work together continues.
Since I listened again a moment ago to Tango Among Friends - Mi Buenos
Aires Querido, mentioned by Steven I have to agree that Mederos gives
out all his heart, and Console demonstrates why a double bass is so key
to our dear Argentine Tango...
On Arturo's comment regarding the quality of the sound system I agree
100% percent. The quality of the sound can make or break both live
groups and CD's. When I go to perform I carry with me about $10,000
worth of high quality microphones and other audio related equipment. By
the way sound is an integral part of my "other" professional work:
http://www.intellinks.com
On my cultural enrichment side this is my quest and mission: To bring
true Argentine Tango music spirit to AT communities and to help them
develop local AT music groups. You may want to visit my tango web site:
http://www.intellinks.com/rioplata
I guess Dave Schmitz says it better referring to my work: He's already
being approached by other venues, including Europe, so I think he's on
his way to becoming THE traveling tango musician in the U.S. "Have
bandoneon, will travel."
Un abrazo para todos los tangueros... I would like to hear from you.
Daniel
