Date: Tue, 14 Sep 1999 07:34:18 -0700 From: AisA <aisstilla @YAHOO.COM> Subject: Re: AT World Championships I think you are missing the point, trying to fix things within the championship. A championship presupposes two things which AT does not have or prefer not to have: 1) Technical and Artistic Standards 2) Authorities (Judges) When was the last time dancers/teachers agreed on any given important topic. Example : Heel first vs Toe first. Since neither is accepted as the standard, then it can not be a criteria...and the list will go on, until you will have nothing but mere subjective opinions. The same people who were yelling and screaming a few weeks ago on this list that there were no rights and wrongs, are defending the competition. If there is no right or wrong, how can you have a competition ? There is more than what appears to be on the surface. You want a competition, this is how it should be: Set the standards and may be a syllabus. Then say this is correct and this is how we'll judge you. Then find authorities who agree on these standards, and who also don't teach (otherwise you'll have the same problem you have in Ballroom, teachers judging students and non-students, conflict of interest ? you bet.) Who knows if I see these elements may be I'll participate myself. Until then, I am dancing as an end in itself, not as a means to something else. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

That is an old tune, written by Piana and Manzione, made famous early by Carlos Gardel himself (You can hear it on Carlos Gardel, The Passion of Tango, a Milan Sur release #44794-2 distributed by BMG records); I have another version by Mercedes Simone con Orquestra, on the Antologia del Tango Argentino, a Blue Moon release #99902. Great tune, slow but with a delicious lilt. Jean-Pierre Jacquet

So, in case anyone else is thinking of this trick, let me tell you: DON'T It is a violation of this list's rules to harvest email addresses from this list for the purpose of sending the posters unsolicited commercial email. That is called spamming. Just because you think we are interested in your spam because we have posted to a mailing list about tango doesn't mean we ARE interested in your spam. When we no longer wish to receive emails about tango we should be able to unsubscribe from the tango-l mailing list and be done with it. When spammers have harvested our addresses (without our permission and against the list rules) and then each individually add us to their opt-out mailing lists, we then have to contact each of those spammers individually to get them to stop spamming us. This is BAD. So don't do it!

What is the current information for milongas in either city? The El Once magazine shows for Budapest one milonga on the 1st Saturday of each month. It shows a milonga at a restaurant "Alma Mater" from 9-11. It looked like that is every night? I would appreciate more current information. In Prague There is only on listing of a person's name. Divadlo V. Dlouhe. Looks like there is nothing in that city. Anyone have better information for me? I would appreciate it. Naomi Bennett Austin, TX

Date: Wed, 15 Sep 1999 01:49:07 +0800 From: Juan Rando <juan @STARWON.COM.AU> Subject: Madonna's Teachers On the subject of Madonna's Teachers, I have this question. When I arrived back here in Australia, after spending a year and half overseas, just prior to me returning there had been a series of Workshops, conducted by Rodolfo Monteleone (excuse the spelling), the son of well known dancer Pedro Monteleone (I think). Now, there was all this rave in the papers about him teaching Madonna t odance, then it was modified to the fact that his father, Pedro was her teacher. Can anyone shed some light on this. I knew that most of it was a little light on truth, but is there a vestige of truth somewhere in it? Juan Rando Perth, Western Australia.

I remember some months ago after the first C.I.T.A. when you complained to the list about how you had not heard about the "alledged" tango event in Buenos Aires. Apparently somebody took your complaint seriously and made sure you were properly notified this time. I guess you just want to have it both ways and trash the C.I.T.A. because you did not hear about it the first time and because you did hear about it this time. I would heartily recommend you save your tango spending units this time and attend CITA with the rest of us. As I've said before it is about the best tango event you can attend from all standpoints. I'm sure after you experience Buenos Aires, all the fabulous instruction, the incredible live music at the nightly milongas and the shows, you will be asking about the next CITA directly and your feelings wont be hurt. I will be happy to help you with any questions regarding my experience at the last CITA or Bs As. Respectfully, Manuel
