Hi Jacques. I'm from Buenos Aires and I'm in tour in Europe with Julio
Iglesias. I like very much salsa. I see that in your e-mail you have
salsa.
Are you a salsa dancer? I have some problems to send an e-mail to the
list.
could you send it for me? It's at the end of this e-mail.
Thanks.

As far as I know, Media Luna (half moon) is an embellischment and
the describes the movement of the foot on the floor, which resebles
a half moon. It's normaly performed by the leader, for example when the
follower is doning a forward ocho, or in other positions, filling the
time when the follower is stepping and the leader is not (or when
both are waiting).
The media luna is also a croissant like thing all portenos love to have
for breakfast :-)
In 1996 I and some people from the list tried to create a list
of common tango terms, perhaps you take a look:

Enjoy the Tango

I have heard the term "media luna" used to describe all three of the
half moons above.
And yes, dulce la leche with third listed media luna. :-)

Sergio description is correct. Osvaldo Zotto teaches a step called
"medialuna in his video. As Sergio says, after the second step, both dancers
step back with their free foot and the woman begins a turn (led by the man)
with a back cross. As the man "unwinds" he leads the woman to take a side
step and a forward cross. Now he leads another forward cross (an ocho), they
finish facing each other and ready to continue with other steps.

THESE ARE typical examples of what I was referring as TERMINOLOGY ANARCHY.
I WROTE:

THE DEFINITION USED ON (1) - is generally called - DIBUJO OR
DRAWING -or-LAPICITO - LITTLE PENCIL.
At this point one has to ask how do I know that this is the correct name.
I learnt those names from discussions with many milongueros, but mostly from
NITO AND FROM OSVALDO ZOTTO. NITO GARCIA has been in tango for many decades
and OSVALDO
learnt from great teachers like TODARO.
Are these the only names? probably no, but they are generally accepted.

MORE TERMINOLOGY ANARCHY:
I have also heard the term "media luna" used to describe a woman's
embellishment--perhaps executed after a freno. The woman bends the
knee on her weight bearing leg and sweeps her free foot in a wide arc
toward the man's back foot (which is about a half circle), and returns
to the freno position before stepping over the man's foot.

If the use of terminology is not standardized and was not developed
until Europeans and Norte Americanos descended upon Buenos Aires to
learn tango, how can any one use of a term be deemed the correct one?
My discussions with a number milongueras and several milongueros
certainly support the use of the term "media luna" in reference to the
woman's embellishment described above.

You may certainly use any names generally accepted or not, as it
pleases you and your friends.
The Argentine Tango terminology was NOT created when the Americans and
Europeans came to Argentina. It always existed, except that it was learned
casually, like one learns the spoken language. The terms were resucitated,
I said, to be used in the teaching setting.
FINALLY, what you described it is generally called, PLANEO - GLIDING.
I apologize for being so repetitive. END OD MY DISCUSSION OF THIS SUBJECT.
