Date: Tue, 19 Oct 1999 10:36:45 +0100 From: James Stewart <J.K.Stewart @ED.AC.UK> Subject: men leading men While on the point of men being follower, I think there are some benefits from a man learning and practicing Leading a another man on occasion (I have found this helpful). There are two benefits 1. A man who does not regularly follow has to be *really* led, while many (beginner, intermediate) followers sometimes rely on their own instincts and assumptions. However unlike leading a beginner woman, a more experienced male follower has their own balance, feels the music, can take even steps etc etc, so they can actually dance. So if a leader is feeling unsure about their leading, try it on a man. Of course a good female teacher should be able to provide most this, if they are around. 2 Rather more abstractly, there is undoubtedly a different sort of communication between men, compared to between men and women - and switching to practicing with a man following can maybe help change the understanding of a movement, and other things I can't think of this morning... James
