I have to agree with you that a new tango exists,
but I don't think it can be said that it is different
because just the way it looks.
There are deeper reasons for the differences on the way
people dance.
Also, I don't think that Mauricio Castro is different
from Mora Godoy. I have seen him at Cochabamba and I
found that his style is also for stage and not for a
milonga. I don't know him personally but I think he is
with the Fabian Salas group.

Piropo by definition is a sentence comical and poetic ( that does not offend
the recipient), that men tell women when they go by in the street.
Piropos have at least two elements that could ?? differentiate them from
"SWEET NOTHINGS".
The most important one, the circunstance and the oportunity, when they are
used.
They are told to a girl that passes by in the street. Nothing is expected in
return other that to please the recipient with some reference to her beauty.
Less frequently it is done with the hope that the girl will look upon the
giver of the piropo with sympathy; as the begining of a possible
relationship.
Eugenia describes Sweet nothings as being part of foreplay.
They also should have a comical component. To cause the lady to smile.
Finally they were/are part of everyday life. Men go out with the purpose of
seing the girls go by, and to tell them piropos.

"Sweet Nothings" is very close to the same meaning as piropo. That is
how we would call it in the US.

Subject: Re: Men as followers
The _roles_ of lead and follow in any dance are not hardwired to a particular
biological sex. They are socially constructed gender roles that have nothing to do
with what is between our legs. The roles in almost all couples' dances are a
reflection of cultural beliefs and expectations about "appropriate" and "acceptable"
behavior by "proper" men and women.
While it is difficult -- and sometimes exhausting -- to challenge these
socially-instilled beliefs, either men or women can lead or follow and it is a matter
of choice which roles they fill. Those who "cross over" risk the condemnation and
subtle approbation of those who are more conformable with conventional and predictable
gender roles. It's worth the risk.
