I appear to have lost, and cannot trace, the email address of Le Temps du
Tango in Paris. If anyone has it handy, could they email it to me, please ?
I'll be in Paris from 6th to 15th December, and again in early January, and
want to get up to date info on what is happening then.

There is a wonderful site for piazzolla(which I learnt about
due to our previous discussions on the tango music for the cello
in here). It has lots of realaudio (piazzolla) music which would
be of interest to most of us on this list:
http://www.piazzolla.org.
There are also two pointers to sheet music at this site:
http://www.yonezawa.com/piazzolla/scores.htm
Editions Universelles: http://www.universelles.com
Cheers!

"Dangerous" boleos, indeed!
Maybe it's time for teachers to create a series of special classes on the "dangers" of the crowded floors: boleos, flicks, amagues, twists, pelvises, knees, high heels, ganchos, corridas, saltos, ..., and finally, piropos!
Regards,
Joe.

Subject: where to start?
People, please help me.
My girlfriend is the best tango dancer in my town. I practice some other
dance styles (like flamenco and modern) but I don't know anything about
tango. I only listen to some tango music. It's obvious that I have to
learn it. If you could help me get into the world of tango, I would be
very grateful. I need information about classes for beginners,
intensive courses, teachers, milongas in Europe, books, videos, CDs, just
everything. Thank you in advance
Alberto

Hi list --
Before Astor Piazzola became the "Father of Nuevo Tango", he had spent many
many years playing, composing and arranging dance music(most notably with
Troilo's ochestra). Astor knew how to play for dancing, he knew tango inside
and out -Troilo would not have suffered a fool. Piazzola left Troilo's
orchestra to lead his own Orquesta Tipica; they made recordings, and some of
these are out on a CD called "Se Armo", on "el bandoneon" label.
It's danceable music - these are arrangements of classic and 2 original
songs, most definitely danceable, if not my favorite. ("Quejas de Bandoneon",
"Todo Corazon"). It's worth checking out. And if Astor ever played on
Troilo's recordings, well then, we've all probably danced painlessly to
Piazzola's bandoneon given how often Troilo is played at milonga's.

Alberto,
you didn't mention the town you live in. I doubt you would be
interested in where and when to dance in, say, Bremen or
Karlsruhe.
About learning how to dance Tango Argentino:
Look for courses you can attend regularly once a week, and look
for weekend workshops as well. Each has its own benefits. Forget
about books, videos and that stuff, at least for the beginning.
Go dancing (at first: practising) regularly, change your
partners. For practising don't choose a crowded milonga but times
when the floor is empty so you don't disturb people who want to
dance just for their fun, or better go to dedicated practicas.
And be prepared for a hard time at the beginning. As long as you
have to concentrate on your own movement (inevitably at the
beginning) you cannot lead clearly at the same time and so the
dance may be not much of fun first. Dance is fun only if it comes
from the lower part of your spine, not from the brain. To get it
there it takes time and practice. It took me about two years to
cross what I call the 'fun threshold', the point where I felt I
got more back from dancing tango than I had to put in.
If possible by any means, learn also the woman's part early and
practise the follower's role with other men as well. That method
really boosted my ability to lead clearly and smoothly and
increased the fun level when dancing with woman in a milonga.
My opinion.
Have fun!
cu,
Christoph

Yet another reason to dance Argentine tango rather than the
ersatz head-high substitute:
--Last Tango in Lisbon--
Dance teacher Alberto Fargo tangoed to his death straight out of a
fifth-floor window. Police in Lisbon, Portugal said Fargo was
showing his class how to keep the head high by looking at the
ceiling.
