Dear Tango Dancers,
Pablo Pugliese will now be residing in New York City to continue his
studies. Because he is currently arranging his school schedule and his
work schedule, I do not have exact information to post here regarding his
classes. However, if you would like information regarding the classes he
is currently teaching in NY or information about his upcoming workshops and
private lessons, please call him directly at 212/674-7205.
Best Regards to All,
Nina

Subject: Hello from new member
Greetings Tangueras and Tangueros,
My name is Michael (a woman named Michael) and I just joined Tango-L today.
I'm a Seattle, Washington tanguera who has been dancing for over a year
through I've been crazy about Astor Piazzolla and _Tango Bar_ for much
longer. I've studied with Manuel Ortiz, Fabian Salas, Daniela Arcuri &
Armando Orzuza, Omar Vega, Susanna Miller, blah, blah, blah, and I'm simply
wild about tango, "open" or milonguero style.
I look forward to reading your musings, and participating in tango
discussions with tangueros from all over the world.
Hasta lluego,
Ms. Michael
P.S. I'll be at Nora's Tango Week in San Francisco, so let's hook up.

Subject: A reminder from Valorie and Alberto
Dear friends,
This is to remind those interested that we will be in Phoenix this weekend
teaching at the Fred Astaire Dance World Studio.
Therefore Valorie will not teach her TANGO BARRE class this Friday at 449
Powell St., and we will not teach our Sunday class at 449 Powell in San
Francisco.
Classes will resume the following Friday, June 25 and Sunday, June 27.
The Planet Tango milonga will take place as scheduled on the fourth Saturday
of the month on June 26 at 449 Powell St. 3rd Floor in San Francisco from 10
PM - 2 AM.
Finally, today is the deadline for signing up for the Labor Day Tango
Getaway in Reno at last year's tuition. If anybody has been meaning to take
advantage of the significant savings, please send us an e-mail today and we
will honor your registration until the end of the week.
The latest issue of El Firulete is now on their to all subscribers. Check it
out at our website.
Tangazos,
Alberto and Valorie
P.S. On the subject of being suckered by ASCAP et al for tangodollars...
>This might or might not apply to a milonga in the US for one of the
>following reasons. One is that the business is small enough to be
>exempted from the act (based on total floor size of the business and
>number of loudspeakers). This is a new exemption since October 1998
>because small business was complaining to the government about the
>royalty requirement. Another reason could be if the milonga is a
>no-charge event and not in a commercial establishment (a home, a church,
>etc, and no money is being charged).
An argument could made that in general, Argentine Tango parties are a quasi
private affair since technically they are not open to the general public for
obvious reasons.
So now we have two rackets on the making if you count the working
permit/visa whistle blowing that affects visiting tango dancers who are
asked to teach while they travel the US.
What's next? A tax on the Eight Count Basic? ;-)
How about a toll to enter the line of dance?
A use permit for ganchos and boleos?
Double taxation for leaders who want to follow and followers that want to lead?
How about an entertainment tax for those who watch?
Thank you for visiting Planet Tango

The explanation is found in the headers (read them from bottom to top):
Received: from MITVMA.MIT.EDU (NJE origin LISTSERV @MITVMA) by MITVMA.MIT.EDU

The messages were delayed because they had to be "approved".
Some time back the list owner decided to put new subscribers on restricted
posting where their posts must be approved by the list owner before they
are distributed to the list. Apparently said list owner doesn't currently
have the time to deal with those posts in a timely fashion (as was also the
case quite some time ago when some of my posts were similarly delayed when
I had changed my email address and thus subscribed as a "new subscriber"
with my new address).
Offers to assist the list owner in the approval process so that these posts
CAN be approved in a timely fashion should be sent to the list owner at
merchant @ALUM.MIT.EDU . Perhaps if enough people comment on this problem,
something will be done to fix/change it. My offer to assist (tendered back
when I was inconvenienced by this problem) still stands.

Subject: workshops in Amherst, MA
The Barn Studio in Amherst is hosting a series of workshops and dances with
the Dutch teachers Birkit (Biki) Wildenburg and Mussafa (Muzo) Demiray.
Their dance is beautiful and they have the rare ability to explain it to
others. This is their only current engagement in the U.S. The maximum class
size is 24 dancers for all classes, and the organizer is doing her best to
gender balance them. The classes have been almost filled by word of mouth;
most dancers signed up so far are at least advanced beginners. The schedule
and number of spaces left is as follows:
Friday, June 25: Buenos Aires Style Milonga 8-12pm
(demonstration at 10pm) - this is
open to everyone.
Saturday, June 26: Classes
#1 - 12-2pm Milonguero Style Workshop (3 spaces open for leaders)
#2 - 3-5pm Followers Workshop (5 spaces open)
Sunday, June 27: Classes
#3 - 12-2pm Salon Style Workshop (open to 4 leaders & 4
followers)
#4 - 3-5pm Building on Milonguero & Salon (5 leaders & 3
followers)
(#1 & #3 required
prerequisites)
Monday, June 28: There is a practica with
instruction by the teachers, 8 pm, followed by a a milonga at 9:30. Some
times for privates are available on Mon & Tues, June 28 & 29.
The studio is a great place to dance and Amherst is particularly beautiful at
this time of year.
For information & to register contact Mindi @ msahner @aol.com. Include your
mail address if you want a printed description of the classes and
instructors. You can also get more information by visiting the following web
