hol=E1 listeros!
within the festival "Tangosommer 99" in Podewil/Berlin we present the
Nestor Vaz Trio with singer august 5. They will be on tour in Germany
until august 30. At the "Cumbre Mudial del Tango" 1996 I saw this
ensemble and was impressed how they mastered the history of tango
including Piazzolla, always being tight to the comp=E1s and adressing bot=
h
the dancers and listeners. They are considered as one of the best
orquestas from Uruguay. The cast:
Nestor Vaz bandone=F3n
Julio Gobelli guitar
Cono Castro double bass
Ledo Urrutia voice
As a group of such reputation they are not expensive. I=B4ll give further
information.
Ciao
Raimund

Dear Listeros,
The far-north suburbs of New York City have taken another step toward
having its own tango presence. Last Sunday, June 6, we had our first
Tango-by-the-River, outdoors, in a gazebo at Cold Spring Landing. Cold
Spring is a village on the east bank of the Hudson, about halfway between
the Bear Mtn. Bridge and the Newburgh Beacon Bridge. The Landing is a
little river-side park with a gazebo that has a pretty smooth concrete
floor, and
ample room for the 10 couples or so that we had at our first milonga.
We danced from 6 'til after 9 PM, and our enjoyment spilled over into the
rest of the park where there were several smiling onlookers, and even a few
who joined us, let us show them how to take their first steps, and asked to
be on our mailing list. Incidentally, the pier-like park area adjacent to
the gazebo is paved with cobblestone-sized blocks, so when we outgrow the
gazebo, there'll be plenty of room to expand the dance floor.
We will be there again next Sunday, and the Sunday after that, and, on a
somewhat irregular schedule, about 3 Sundays a month for as long as the
summer weather lets us. If you are near enough to join us, you can check
the schedule at http://nycdc.com/hvtango/ , which has phone numbers to call
in case of questionable weather.
By the time the leaves fall, we expect to have an indoor venue, which will
enable us to have a more predictable, year-round schedule, but June 6 will
always be a memorable date for us, when we turned a sleepy little Hudson
Valley Village into La Boca for a couple of hours.
The only thing that was missing that day was the presence of Alberto Paz
and Valorie Hart, who had left our area just a few days before to return to
San Francisco. It wouldn't have happened without them, and how great it
would have been for them to see it. Thank you TangoMan y Mariposa, from all
of us in the new Hudson Valley Tango Community, and especially from
MariLynne and me, for coming to our barrio to inspire us, and to show us
how to put our feet on the ground to the rhythm of the tango.

Hi everybody,
I'm planning a vacation to Washington, D.C. in the
next couple months. Can anyone tell me how to find
out about the local tango events?
Thanks,
James!

Subject: Re: Help for Mac users in getting hooked up to TangoRadio
Mac Users won't be able to use WinAmp, which is currently avail only for
PC and Unix. Visit http://www.mp3.com/software/mac/players.html to find
Mac-friendly MP3 players. These will allow you to play MP3 music files
on your own machine, but I don't know how many of them will support
streaming from a server (like radiotango) since the Shoutcast software
that is being used is still fairly recent, other MP3 players might not
have caught up.
MacAmp (http://209.197.109.16/description.html) apparently is going to
add streaming support in their next version. Audioactive
(http://audioactive.com/ supports streaming from a RealSystem G2 server.
The other software programs don't look as promising. You may have to
wait for Mac programmers to catch up. Sorry!
Good luck!

many regular correspondents who use Macs would also appreciate a

explanation for the nearly-computer-illiterate. Is there a way?

A plea on behalf of the technologically challenged. . . .
I've tried (and failed) repeatedly to access Tango Radio from my
PC, using both Winamp and other MP3 players. For those of you who have
accessed it successfully, or who are more sophisticated about the
technology than me (i.e., most people), would someone mind taking on the
task of posting a "Tango Radio for dummies" tutorial? I would
especially appreciate tips from those who have said they had to jigger
Winamp to get it to play. Thanks very much. ; )
