I tend to think of tango as *a* source of intimacy and passion. These
sources tend to be all too few and far betwee. It seems to me there's
definately a human need for touch. Dancing in general and tango in
particular provide a nice social mechanism for fulfilling this need.
It seems to me people rely too much on their one serious relationship
for intimacy (and passion and touch - these things tend to go together
for me, or at least in parallel). I find this tends to overburden
that one relationship. As soon as there's a dip in the relationship
for whatever reason, the other partner experiences an unfulfilled
need, and problems start up. I think relationships work best when
they're based on two people choosing to share themselves together, not
based on two people needing each other.

No. It seems usually people are drawn *to* the tango for these
reasons. I've heard of dancers who put aside dancing to concentrate
on other aspects of their life (career, education, etc), but, only
because other things became higher priorities, not because the dance
itself was becoming "too important" or something...
Anyway, those are my thoughts. I'd be interested to hear what others
have to say about it.
Best wishes,
Mike Hamilton
