Tango Listers,
We all avidly monitor the tango world from the
security of our homes; some of us Listers cannot. The
magnitude of this disaster in human suffering is
brought home, not so much by CNN or BBC, but to us by
one of our own, Eva Varon.
Consider: the...usefulness...of charitable milongas that
donate the substance of receipts to the many
organizations that benefit victims of the Turkish
earthquake.

Nature will step in to correct beginners' use of the back step to begin
the dance. After enough embarrassing collisions with persons located
behind the leader, he will eventually discard the use of the back step
on a crowded dance floor. Meanwhile, God have mercy on the unfortunate
persons dancing behind.

Oh Richard, you are so optimistic! Where I dance the same people do the
same thing over and over. I have been kicked and stabbed in the foot, and
the leaders, while apologetic, all act as if it were an unavoidable
accident..... Some men get that pattern in their head and hold on to it for
dear life, regardless of their surroundings. Metin used to make us dance
around the perimeter of the room by filling the center of the space with
chairs so we could NOT drift into it. Then the leaders had to REALLY watch
where they were going..... I have not seen that done for quite a while, but
perhaps other teachers use that technique. May all your dances be safe!
