We wish to thank everyone who responded to our offer for the "Forever
Tango" video and hope you are enjoying it. Due to the overwhelming
response we have received, a new shipment (the first is sold out) is
available immediately for distribution. Also we wish to clarify that the
video is approximately ONE hour long--not two--as we were originally
misinformed as to its length. The video is excellent quality and
professionally edited using multiple camera angles and closeups.
You may order by calling (818) 763-1294 or by fax: (818) 623-8322.
Visa/Mastercard accepted. Shipping is included in the price: $39:95.

He will not agree to *any* classification.
Tango, IMHO, has as many styles as there are (good) couples (and even
more -- I dance in many styles depending on partner, music and mood),
and that's one of its most endearing characteristics.
If you're really good, you can even spawn your own following: the mere
fact that there *are* more than one style to start giving names to
speaks for that fact -- we'd all be dancing the same way by now if
nobody had ever dared testing the envelope.
Yet more confusing, groups that dance *similar* styles also see their
`common' style evolve, which, in the course of the years, leads one word
to cover different style groups at different times.
(and of course, many Argentines also delight in creating their own
nomenclature that is conflicting with that of others -- `Salon' is used
by Tete totally differently than by many others before him, though Tete
seems to have skewed the `common' meaning of the word in his favour over
the years -- but then, I'm sensing a swing of the pendulum back the
other way now ;) ).
Obvious last words: who gives a rats-ass what it's called, as long as it
feels good for both partners (and invariably also *looks* good -- I've
never seen two people dance a tango in harmony yield an ugly result. For
many good milongueros, the `imperfections' are even a part of their
style, just like `impurities' in a diamond that are well-distributed can
yield a splendid coloured diamond).

Alexis, very much so. And in addition: there is a tendency to bring classification
and apodictic definition into Tango Argentino, for some people it seems to be even
the most interesting part of it. Strange attitude...

Hello Tango-L,
I am wonder beside me does anybody order "Forever Tango" video from
Mark and Joan? According to below information, the "Forever Tango"
video is approx. 2 hours long. However, after I ordered video,
received and watched it. It is only 50 minutes, NOT 2 hours. Everybody
knows that 2 hours is 120 minutes, and 50 minutes is not equal to 120
minutes.
I wrote e-mail to Mark and Joan on Monday, 4/12, asked for
explaination. But they did not response back to me. I am wonder does
anyone order "Forever Tango" video and get 2 hours long, and I got a
SHRINK one.

Must've been some time ago -- since I have a son, I've never managed to
attend Eric's gig (it's in the evenings). I do try to go to some of the
afternoons, though, in the Pianofabriek and Humbeek in Belgium,
nowadays.

A tango buddy of mine sugested going cold turkey for a while, but I really
don't want to find something else to fill my calendar. I have to many tango

This has happened to me with other activities, although not yet with =
Argentine Tango. Perhaps your feeling burned out is a result of your =
"daily classes, ... workshops and private lessons..." That sounds like =
a lot of learning for what should be a "fun" activity! There's a lot =
more to AT than learning "new steps".
Instead of cold turkey, perhaps what you need is to stop taking formal =
lessons for a little while, and simply dance. I know that in my VAST =
(sarcasm, folks!) two-year-plus AT experience, we have been forced =
several times to forgo lessons due to lack of funds. But we still kept =

Even when foot problems keep me from dancing, we still attend the =

I hope this helps you, too.

Subject: TANGOING Opening night in SFO
We are very excited about the opening of TANGOING, Dance Concert at the
Alcazar Theater this Monday, April 19. Billed as "A show with all the dance,
magic and expression of the new generation," TANGOING is the brainchild of
Daniela Arcuri, Armando Orzuza, Marcos Questas and Zita Gonzalez, Argentine
Tango dancing professionals from Argentina, now residing in Los Angeles.
The cast also features Guillermo Merlo, who was a member of the cast of
Forever Tango for several years. He nows partners his sweetheart and
exquisite dancer Fernanda Ghi, who danced tango on stage several years in
Japan under contract with Fuji.
Omar "Tweety" Merlo, Guillermo's brother and a renown dancer in Buenos
Aires, will dance with talented Natalia Lavandeira.
Completing the cast are Juan Manuel "Malambo" Fernandez and Edith Paez.
According to Miranda Garrison, assistant choreographer of the movie "Evita,"
in TANGOING "tradition meets innovation." And Vince Patterson, a director
and choreographer, who was a consultant to "Evita" also said, "but most
astonishingly, it presents the tango as a 'contemporary' form of expression."
The initial publicity, including an ad on El Firulete, listed the previews
starting April 16 (you know who's birthday) through April 20, and the
opening on April 21.
People contacting the box office (415.441.4042) are being advised that the
Opening Night will be Monday, April 19 at 8 PM. Tuesday, April 20 will the
theater will be dark.
The Alcazar is located at 650 Geary Street at Jones, three blocks from Union
Square.

When I am burned out on tango, I do more ballroom and latin. When I am
burned out on ballroom, I do more tango. I could never quit dancing
completely. I also recently found that switching teachers and/or venues
can be really refreshing. It helps to get a new perspective on things
and re-evaluate your goals.

I my self love the salsa and merengue. It doesn't take much thinking just
letting you body move to the music. my Saturday night milonga ends with the

David, don't let yourself think in terms of plateaus, or of things you have
to learn. They'll come.
Try this: Find a partner that will dance with you, and find an empty floor
somewhere. Put on Quejas de Bandoneon, or Gallo Ciego, or Don Juan, or
Recuerdos, or....(your choice)...... Embrace your partner, close your
eyes, and let the music get inside you. You'll tango.
