Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 09:03:00 -0400 From: Michael Ditkoff <Michael.B.Ditkoff @USDOJ.GOV> Subject: Breaking the Tango 1000 Whereas the Dow Jones recently broke the 10,000 mark, some list members are anxiously waiting for the list to break 1000. Somebody suggested unsubscribing and then resubscribing to be the lucky 1000th. It won't work. When you unsubscribe, the list decreases by one and resubscribing increases the list by one, a wash of zero. Now, subscribing under a second name, that would get the lucky winner closer to 1000. My suggestion for the prize to the 1000th member - a gancho from all list members.

This is an extra special milonga. Please come and join me to celebrate the birthday of my dear partner, Alberto Paz. I will be offering cake and complimentary wine, sodas, water and juices. As usual, Alberto and I will give an intermediate level 45 minutes lesson at 9 PM. After the class, great music played for lots of dancing until 1 AM. The admission is just $5. Remember that there is safe and inexpensive parking at the Sutter/Stockton Garage. If you arrive before 10 PM, please come directly into the ballroom as quietly as possible. For those of you who know the space, you know that there is a small theater there and that on Saturday night there is usually a performance going on until 10 PM or so. Hope to see you on Saturday. Abrazos, La Mariposa, Valorie Hart Thank you for visiting Planet Tango at, http://www.hooked.net/~tangoman/

Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 20:30:18 EDT From: Cherie Magnus <MACFroggy @AOL.COM> Subject: Montevideo Hola, List! While I was in BsAs in March, I took the ferry boat across the Rio de la Platte to Montevideo for the weekend. I arrived in Uruguay with an introduction to the renowned teacher, Omar Correa, and visited him in his studio. Unfortunately it was a Saturday night, and the milonga is on Friday, but nevertheless he danced with me. I also had the pleasure of dancing with his assistant, Renato, and of observing Omar instructing a couple who just happened by. It was an incredible experience, one which I'll never forget. And I would just like to inform all members of the List who may be visiting Buenos Aires, that a weekend in Montevideo checking out tango in Uruguay across the river is well worth the time and trouble. Any travel agent in Argentina can arrange for a package trip for you, including transportation, hotel, city tour, and a couple of meals. It's very inexpensive that way. I stayed at the Hotel de Los Angeles right downtown, and it was excellent: old, high ceilinged, marble bathroom, terrific service, and it was the least expensive on the list of choices. Plus it was in walking distance to Omar's, which is right off the little Gardel Square. Check with Omar before going to confirm the milonga day: (598) (2) 902-5039, or to arrange for private lessons. You won't be sorry. Don't forget your passport! Cherie Los Angeles

The -gomina- used by tango = dancers can also be purchased in many Argentine shops here in the US. = (Tip: It may not be just men who use it, as I've noticed more than one = woman in the tango shows with the same "helmeted" shine to her short = hair...) --Pat =20 (of Pat&Ken, he of the super-controlled 'do...)
