NA-W: Dec 6 Holiday Roaring 20's Ball in Denver, CO
The Roaring 20’s: The time when a new craze for dancing swept Paris and made
Tango spectacularly accepted by the country of its birth. Who knows? Would
we all be dancing this dance, all over the world, were it not for the 20’s?
To honor this fabulous era, Tango Colorado will celebrate the season with its
Holiday Roaring 20’s Ball on Saturday, December 6. It will be a fun time of
return in dress, food and excitement. Where? The Denver Turnverein, the home
base of Tango Colorado, which has a glorious ballroom, with recently and
greatly improved acoustics. What? We’ll have 20 (of course!) incredible gifts,
offered through raffle, such as festival passes from major venues, shoes, private
dance lessons, etc. Playing will be great DJ music by Tom Stermitz, as well
as our local orchestra, Extasis, with not four (as normal), but eight members,
all Colorado Symphony musicians. Tango Colorado funded their leader to study
in Buenos Aires several years ago and they continue to expand their play list
and, most importantly, they are more and more tuned to our dancers.
We expect 200 local dancers from all over the state of Colorado. We would
love to have you join us! In addition to Tango Colorado’s milonga, there will
be a Friday night milonga at the Mercury Café in Denver. Classes? You bet!
Tom Stermitz is bringing in Kat and Felipe from San Francisco for workshops
concentrating on Tango Turns, Alterations and Boleos. While they have been very
popular and repeat teachers at the Portland Tango Festivals, it will be their
first time in Denver.
