Subject: Women & being asked to dance
Dear List,
I have patiently read all the postings and feel I need to add my tuppence
worth.
I am a single woman. I went alone to Buenos Aires and took lots of classes
etc and then attended every milonga (usually two per day) I could. Of
course my dancing improved, but that is the point I WAS dancing. After a
week or two, I was accepted by the milongueros and had a truly wonderful
time. I learnt the etiquette of the mirada, always used it and didn't get
involved romantically with any of them.
I also visted San Francisco twice recently and had a similarly great
time...I danced a lot, and with many lovely, friendly men. Sometimes I'd
ask them to dance sometimes the reverse.
So what is the point of what I am saying...ATTITUDE!
In each case I really wanted to dance and I wanted to meet the men and
enjoy their company. I probably looked friendly, happy & interested too.
And of course I met many lovely men (& women) and found the whole scene
remarkably friendly and unintimidating (esp after Bs As.).
And thanks to all my friends in San Francisco for making my stay so enjoyable.
