Brief Bios on Brooke & Gaby Brooke Burdett, a tango instructor and driving force in the development of the Colorado tango community, has been living in Buenos Aires since March 1997. She moved to Argentina to deepen her understanding of the dance and its cultural environment and to strengthen her knowledge of the many diverse styles learned from the great tango masters. Brooke teaches and performs tango in Buenos Aires. Some of her most influential teachers have been Gustavo Naveira & Olga Besio, Fabian Salas, Chicho, Graciela Gonzalez, Florencia Taccetti, Mingo & Esther Pugliese and Juan Bruno. Gabriel Gueberoff (Gaby), of Argentina, is one of the members of the most innovative set of young tango dancers in Buenos Aires. Fluent in English, Gaby is a natural teacher and communicator whose work with tango follows his many years of teaching Israeli folk dances. Well-known by both North and South American tangueros, Gaby has taught tango throughout the U.S. and has been a featured instructor at the Tango Locura festival in Montreal. Additionally, in April 1998, he completed an instructional video with Luciana Valle on tango of the new generation. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 10:04:10 -0500 From: Robinne Gray <rlg2 @CORNELL.EDU> Subject: NA-C: Austin, Spring Break? Hi gang, Myself and a couple of girlfriends are making plans to spend the week of March 19-25 in Austin, Texas. I'll check the Austin tango website for events but would also like some "insider" qualitative/anecdotal info about where to go and what to see during our trip. I was last there in 1993 so I have some familiarity, but could use an update! We're planning on lots of dancing (swing, tango, salsa), live music, sightseeing, and Tex-Mex food! Would appreciate recommendations of cheap and fabulous restaurants, clubs with character, other special places, and...inexpensive, decent places to stay. Thanks in advance. (Can't wait to get out of this cold.) --Robinne Ithaca, NY P.S. And I'm going to ask all the men to dance!

Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 15:31:26 +0000 From: Verena Faigle <verenav @AOL.COM> Subject: EU-W: Los Reyes del Tango planning Europe tour Dear Listeras y Listeros! We proudly present: Los reyes del Tango. Los reyes del Tango embody the true spirit of an era of great Tango orchestras. 9 outstanding, seasoned musicians, many of them performing since the legendary '40s, the 'Epoca del Oro' for Tango, their music hasn't been heard so energetically and genuine since the days of D'Arienzo and D'Angelis. Joined by the voice of an outstanding young singer, who could be their grandson, Los Reyes del Tango do what they do best: play original Tango meant for dancing. Currently you can find them every week in the most popular milongas of Buenos Aires. 'Sold out' is the word most often heard when they perform at Torquato Tasso or Ni=F1o Bien. Considered Tango orchestra of the year in 1999, they played for all six nights straight instead of the planned two at last years CITAS. They were also selected to play on December 11, the National Tango holiday itself, during the 2nd 'Festival International del Tango' in Buenos Aires (9-11 Dec. 99). Only the best play there, like Color Tango, El Arranque, Los Cosos de al Lao with Alfredo Piro and the fabulous DJ Felix Picherna. It is time to experience Los Reyes del Tango beyond the milongas of Buenos Aires, and this time is now. Starting in the year 2000 Los Reyes del Tango have agreed to go on a world tour. The first dates available for Europe are in June. Want to know more about the Reyes del Tango? If you would like more information, or are interested in inviting these living treasures of the great old orchestra days of Tango to perform at your Milongas, please ask us for background information, bios, conditions, CDs, at: Verena Volkart Endersbacher Str. 48b 70374 Stuttgart Germany Tel/Fax: +49-711-52 60 83 verenav @aol.com intl represtantative in Argentina: Judit Lentijo: hermetico @arnet.com.ar
