Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2000 18:35:46 -0700 From: Dave Schmitz <dschmitz @MAGELLAN.TEQ.STORTEK.COM> Subject: NA-W: Colorado, Live Tango Music at the Mercury Cafe, Schedule Denver's Mercury Cafe features milongas Friday evenings, many with live tango music. We are fortunate that Marilyn, the owner of the Merc', loves tango and does so much to support it. For lovers of live tango music among you, here is the schedule for the next couple months. We are fortunate to have TWO bands. EXTASIS is our Denver-based quartet featuring Evan Orman on bandoneon, Erin Furbee on violin, Ken Harper on double bass and Rosanna Patrona-Aurand on piano. Evan and Erin have studied in Buenos Aires. Erin and Ken are professional symphony musicians who also love to play tango for dancers. Evan is a professional cellist as well. These four have become quite popular due not only to their talent but due to the way they play for us dancers. DANIEL DIAZ, bandoneonist, is an Argentine now living in Utah. He grew up with the tango and had his own tango band when still a teenager in Buenos Aires. He has been coming to Denver about once a month to play at our milongas, including a recent weekend with a 3-bandoneon septet. Daniel's schedule is filling up, with invitations not only around the U.S. but in Europe. For more info: dan @intellinks.com http://www.intellinks.com/rioplata CHRISTINE BREBES is an up-and-coming young violinist from Kansas City. All milongas begin about 9:30 pm and go until 2 am.
