Subject: NA-E: Brooke Burdett Summer Tour
Brooke Burdett will be teaching tango workshops in the US and Canada
during the months of June and July (itinerary below). Brooke is a
North American who has be en living in Buenos Aires for over three
years, studying with the older generation's tango masters and with the
younger generation's most innovative leaders. She has taught in many
US cities and appears in instructional videos with Daniel Trenner and
with Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli. Brooke's approach centers around the
art of improvisation and the development of core elements such as
structure, technique, and musical interpretation. She is an incredibly
clear teacher with unique insight!

JULIO BALMACEDA AND CORINA DE LA ROSA, two of Buenos Aires' most popular
young maestros and milongueros, will be teaching group and private classes
in Los Angeles from Tuesday, April 25 to Wednesday, May 3. They will give a
special weekend workshop consisting of six classes from April 28 to May 1.

8:15 to 9:45 p.m.
Basic and Intermediate Tango
Academy 331, 530 N. La Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood, 1/2 block south of

SPECIAL WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Friday, April 28, 8 - 10 p.m.
Fundamentals of Tango Technique I: Posture, position and balance; walking
and moving in unison with a partner; leading and following; basic
components. This class will lay the foundation for the rest of the workshop.
Saturday, April 29
1 - 3 p.m
Fundamentals of Tango Technique II: The components of intermediate and
advanced patterns, including giros, enrosques, sacadas, boleos and barridas.
This class will focus on developing the skills for executing these
components cleanly and in balance with your partner.
4 - 6 p.m.
Improvisation--Stop Memorizing Steps and Start Dancing: How to combine
components to create your own patterns; how to eliminate resolutions; how to
adapt your dancing to a small or crowded space; how to navigate the floor
and avoid collisions.
Sunday, April 30
1 -3 p.m.
Rhythm and Musical Interpretation:
Dancing the rhythm, or the melody, or both; dancing to different orchestras;
adding color and spice to your dancing.
4 - 6 p.m.
Milonga Con Traspie:
Adding double -time steps to milonga. This style is great fun and very
popular in Buenos Aires.
Monday, May 1, 8:15 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.
Vals Cruzado:
Dancing tango to waltz rhythm. Julio's specialty!
Classes on Friday, Sunday and Monday will be held at Academy 331, 530 N. La
Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood. Classes on Saturday will be held at Synthesis
Dance Studios, 4200 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood.
Workshop Prices:
If registering before 4/20, individual classes $30 each; all six classes for
$145 (20% discount). If registering after 4/20, individual classes $35 each;
all six classes for $185 (12%) discount. No refunds after 4/20. Cash,
