Subject: NA - W Forever Tango in Vancouver,
BC - Workshops with Gavito & Marcela
Greetings,
Forever Tango will be in Vancouver, BC May 3-14 at the Vogue
theater. (tickets at the Vogue & Ticketmaster)
With this opportunity, we are pleased to have maestro Carlos Gavito
among us once again, this time teaching with Marcela Duran, his partner
and another star of Forever Tango. Gavito, a true passionate
milonguero, takes his 35 years of experience to wherever Froever Tango
goes. In his previous visits Gavito influenced many of our local
milongueros with his elegant style and flawless teaching. Marcela has
specially been praised for her "embellishments" workshops.
We have 10 workshops and a number of milongas. And the weather has
been really good in Vancouver so far :)

TangoDanza is a new show created from the experiences
of two young dancers who danced in many different
shows around the world. Using Argentine Tango music
and choreography as the main language, the show will
attempt to directly target the audiences emotions and
feelings in a unique manner.
Throughout the almost two hours of performance, the
dancers show in their bodies and movement the
complexity and deepness of the traditional music of
Buenos Aires. The show is focused on the outstanding
choreography and also on the colorful costumes and
lighting effects. Everything combines to create an
ambiance, a feeling a journey through a series of
emotions.
The six dancers on stage will take you through the
various styles of Tango, from the most rhythmical,
electric and playful to the more intense, deeper and
sensual ones. TangoDanza will also give you the
opportunity to see breathless performances of two
other related Argentinian Dances, the Milonga and Vals
Criollo.

Triple Milonga Weekend in Colorado May 19 - 21
May 19 - 21 will feature a much bigger than usual weekend of tango
activities in Denver, Colorado. True Tango fanatics may wish to come
in a few days early or stay a few days longer to make it a full week.
Colorado is an active community of tango dancers that started about
five years ago. Our style of dancing tends strongly toward social
tango, rather than fantasy & figures. The close-embrace style is
winning over a large percentage of the dancers. Our Tuesday Tango
Colorado Practice usually gets 60 - 80 people. The Friday Mercury
milonga usually has 100 - 120 people.
Most events are close to Downtown Denver so you can easily manage
without a rental car.
Live Tango Weekend: "Reminiscing the 1900s" Dan Diaz & Guest Musicians
Mercury Milongas May 19 - 21 feature the music of Dan Diaz & Tango
Camerata with tango Jam-sessions Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This
time Dan brings in a violinist, guitarists and singers for a whole
weekend of live tango music for listening and for dancing. There will
be a special emphasis on earlier forms of tango music from the 1910s,
1920s and 1930s. But modern tango music will also be present.
Visiting musicians include:
- Victor Sanchez Argentine Guitarist: Montreal, Canada
- Karim Memi, Argenintine Singer from Kansas City, MO
- Tango Lorca: Christine Bledes (Violin) & Beau Bledsoe (Guitar):
Kansas City, MO
- Robin Ruscio, Double Bass: Denver, CO
- Stephan Griffin, African Drum: Denver, CO
Victor Sanchez will be presenting tango guitar workshops on May 17 &
18 in Denver.
The final live music event will be a Tango Brunch at 12:00 on Sunday,
with music that is more oriented to listening. Friday and Saturday
will be for dancing.
For more information see: http://www.intellinks.com/rioplata/calendar.htm
Dan Diaz, who lives in Utah, has been playing bandoneon since he was
a child in Argentina. Recently he has been creating tango jam
sessions in Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City, San Francisco and
Washington DC.

Musicality, Expression & Creativity with Eric Jorissen
Eric Jorissen will focus on tango as a musical and creative
expression. He will work on connection, playfulness, feeling and
communication, in short everything you get to do once you have
learned the tango fundamentals.
Eric is one of the most popular tango teachers in Europe. He is a
community builder and the master of ceremonies at El Corte, a Tango
School or "Tango Hostel" in Nijmegen, Holland he has been running for
12 years. Eric has travelled regularly to New York, but this will be
his first visit to the Western, United States.
Workshops begin Wednesday, May 16 and continue Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. Material assumes Intermediate level skills, and
progresses to Adv-Intermediate and Advanced by the Weekend.

Travel & Lodging Tips:
Frontier and United Airlings have hubs in Denver. Frontier often
announces deep discount flights on Wednesday for travel the
immediately following Saturday.
The Friday milonga gets rolling by 10:00, so you can arrive at the
airport at 8:00 and make it downtown in time for the party at the
Mercury.
Denver Lodging:
http://lodging.yahoo.com/lodging/Colorado/Metropolitan_Areas/Denver_Metro/
All Denver events are very near downtown Denver, so you can manage
without a rental car. Our community is friendly if you require a lift
home after the milongas.
Downtown Hotels are nice but more expensive (search in the 80202 zipcode).
Hotels on Quebec Street near the old Stapleton Airport offer better
prices than downtown, and are still reasonably close. You would
probably need a rental car.
There is a modest Youth Hostel a block from the Mercury Cafe:
- Melbourne International Youth Hostel
- 303-292-6386
- 607 22nd St
- DENVER CO 80205
