Subject: AASP: Sydney. El Saturno Tango's xmas milonga
If you are in Sydney this coming friday and want to dance, then come
along to Glebe Town Hall (160 St John's Rd, Glebe) where the usual
<bold>EL Saturno milonga</bold> will be in xmas mode. Starting at 8pm
and going to midnight, you can dance to a wide variety of tango, vals
and milonga tunes. Empanaditas and other finger food will be provided
along with wine and champagne. Entry is $10, phone 9692 9248 or 9351

Subject: ADMIN: Important: Posting reminders for Tango-A and Tango-L
The Tango-A and Tango-L instructions may seem long (but they are not
complicated). Here are the most common posting errors that people make,
in approximate decreasing order of frequency of occurrence, so please
review at least these three most common errors in this brief e-mail
before making a posting!
1. DON'T USE TANGO-L FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS. All announcements of Tango
events must be made to Tango-A only (see Item 2 below). Also any
"commercial" postings such as Tango videos for sale, etc., should only
be made to Tango-A (under topic "MISC:").
Postings of a discussion nature that are not event announcements, even
if they are geography-specific, may be made to Tango-L instead. These
have been relatively rare (unfortunately, since they are usually
interesting), but the recent posting on Tango in Cuba is a good example.
Relating ones general Tango experience in Buenos Aires, or any other
city for that matter, would also be a good candidate for Tango-L. Event
announcements, however, and responses to event announcements (often
corrections or supplemental information) should be made to Tango-A only.
2. REMEMBER TO SPECIFY THE TOPIC FOR POSTINGS TO TANGO-A (AND TO FOLLOW
THE FORMAT BELOW EXACTLY, WITH THE COLON FOLLOWING THE TOPIC NAME): The
topic should reflect where the event is HAPPENING (not the locations of
the potential audience you wish to attract). Unless the posting is an
announcement of a multi-city tour, please use only a single topic. Here
is a list of topics, as a reminder, and the required format:
The Tango-A list uses topics, which requires that the subject of
every post be preceded with the topic name followed by a colon and
a space (the colon and space are required). E.g.,
Subject: NA-W: This is an article for Western North America
The topic names are based on geographical relevance and can be ONE
of the following: SA (South America), NA-W NA-C NA-E (North America
West, Central, East), EU-W EU-E (Europe West, East), AASP (Asia/
Africa/South Pacific) or MISC (non-geographical announcements).
If you don't specify the topic, your posting will only reach those who
subscribe to the digest version of the list (who get all postings
anyway), which is a much smaller audience than you would otherwise get
or than you probably intended.
3. SET YOUR MAILER TO SEND MAIL TO TANGO-A OR TANGO-L IN PLAINTEXT (NOT
HTML): The options for doing this vary from mailer to mailer, but the
three most common errors can be solved as follows:
- Set your mailer to send e-mail in plaintext only (rather than HTML
format or both plaintext + HTML)
- Avoid cutting and pasting from a formatting word processing (use the
mail composer's window directly instead), otherwise you sometimes get
unnecessary MIME characters (the "=20" and other similar extraneous
characters at the end of lines).
- Don't quote or attach the entire original message. If it is necessary
to set the context for a response to someone's comment, just quote the
few lines or the paragraph. Some mailers will automatically attach the
original message to a reply in which case you should compose a new
message and copy and paste the original subject line.
A message that is incorrectly formatted will result in many list members
not seeing your mail in the most readable way, depending on the mailer
they are using and how they have set it. The recommendations above
should result in maximum compatibility with all mailers.
If you have misplaced the original instructions you got when you
subscribed to the list, you may get a copy by sending the following
message in the body of an e-mail to listserv @mitvma.mit.edu:

"TANGO BARRE" with VALORIE HART

Tango Barre (the successful series for women taught by Valorie Hart).
This is a class given like a ballet barre class (tango barre!), designed
for all levels of dancers. Material addressed and worked on: balance,
embellishments, stretching, giros, music identification and interpretation,
confidence enhancement, body management. The last fifteen minutes
are spent on questions from the class about any technical or social
aspect women encounter when dancing. This is a good class for those
starting out, and an excellent maintenance program for experienced
dancers. The material is consistent and repetitive in the spirit of a ballet
class, crafted to allow a woman to own her technique and use it to
express herself, her body type, her musicality and to feel the enjoyment
of confidence when being able to respond and dance with any and every
man.

Yanina Messina will give her technique workshop for Argentine Tango dancers
(men and women) on December 12, (Sunday), from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Please NOTE,
this is a change of time. It is half hour earlier than before. The Workshop
will be held at the same location as before: 1018 Almanor Lane, off Mt.
Diablo Blvd., in Lafayette, CA. The Studio sits behind Jack'N the Box
Restaurant.
As in the past, Yanina plans her exercise and work to be done by each
individual on their own. These exercises lead into movements and steps in
the Tango. The purpose of these exercises are to improve your execution of
the movements. The HOW of the movement is stressed so that your dancing
becomes more polished, more distinct and more pleasurable to do.

Some very good late-breaking news for those in the New York City area or
those planning to be here the weekend of Fri. Dec. 10 - Sun. Dec.12. Danel &
Maria will be sponsoring workshops by Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida on
Friday and Saturday nights, Dec 10 and 11. For those of you who are growing a
little tired of the "nuevo tango" acrobatics this is a chance to see classic
performance tango with precision and elegance. Osvaldo and his brother Miguel
are considered by many to be the greatest living male tango dancers and Maria
says that Osvaldo and Lorena are evolving into one of the great tango
couples. They are in town on a promotion tour for Julio Iglesias' Tango album
at a private function at Lincoln Center and have agreed to do some workshops
while here. This is a great opportunity and a bargain as well.
On Friday Dec. 10 they will be at the Mt Vernon West train station in
Westchester County (there is a dance hall upstairs), 20 minutes from Grand
Central Station.
Intermediate Workshop - 7:30 - 9:30 with a practice after. Please call

But the real bargain is on Saturday Dec.11. They will be giving workshops at
the Sandra Cameron Dance Center, 20 Cooper Sq. near E. 5th St. and Astor
