This is true if we take an isolated tango, an isolated tanda or an
individual leader; but the woman has an infinite range of possibilities by
selecting those leaders with whom she wishes to dance.

In actuality she is exposed to a myriad of dancing styles and possibilities
while dancing with a variety of leaders, who have their own personalities,
their own styles, their own sensitivities or lack of them.
It is through this exposure that the woman acquires a malleability and a
unique capacity to respond and adjust to a great number of possibilities.

On the other hand the man is to some degree constrained to his own way of
dancing, a way that he tries to adjust (sometimes to impose) to the
different followers. He usually has a tendency to select those followers
that dance like himself restricting in this way even more his exposure to
different dancing forms.

It is interesting that Brian started this discussion pointing to the fact
that it was Tete's present partner who imposed some restrictions  when
comparing his dancing with the one exhibited with his former companion,
Maria.  It was a woman imposing some limitations on a leader tango
instructor, and by doing so, this woman like Eve, projected those
limitations on all the women of the tango race. :))

One can deduct then that both men and women could impose restrictions on
each other.
The ideal is to dance in a form that allows both partners full expression of
their personalities, artistic interpretation and technical skills. The usual
form to achieve this is to dance with people of the same skill level and for
the man to allow enough time so that the woman can express herself as she
pleases.

May all of us have the freedom to dance as we wish.
