Re: [TANGO-L] "Deep Tango": Grab your boots and a shovel...

Hi Jonathan,

I like you the direction you are headed with this. But
a continuum line cant have anything at its
non-existent ends. I propose the line be changed to a
plane, perhaps a dance floor. And rather than modeling
the various possible dance experiences as points on
the floor, perhaps they might be suspended above the
floor, much like the globes of chandeliers. Each point
on the dance floor will receive light from each globe,
but the most intense light will come from the globe
directly above it. Thus, as the dancers move around
the floor, they will experience varying intensities of
"fun", "play", "elaborate visual presentation", "deep
feeling", "meditation", "trance" etc. (Ill save
"transcendent" for that mythical couple floating above
the floor.) But even when directly below one light,
the dancer is still illuminated to some degree by all
of the others.

This sounds like a milonga for me.

Now imagine that one dancer prefers just one of the
lights, and spends the entire evening dancing exactly
below it. The other dancers may grumble about the
obstruction, or simply smile knowingly and move around
him. Either way, its no big deal to them. But it is a
big deal to the guy who has "discovered" the best
light. So he starts to recruit his friends to join him
there. Pretty soon, there is a big crowd of his
disciples jostling for position under the "true"
light, perhaps to the point where they no longer even
remember to dance. And now, they have become a real
problem for the rest of the room.

Meanwhile, someone else becomes jealous of the first
guys influence. (He now has such a strong following,
that he is selling space under "his" light.) So the
second guy picks one of the other lights, and declares
it the best. If he is a good salesman, he gathers his
own crowd.

Pretty soon, instead of a nice party, the dance floor
is split into angry groups, each touting the
superiority of their own light. Any newcomers are
dragged into the center of whichever group catches
them first, so that they cant see any of the others.

What a disaster.

Sean

P.S. Then Larry from Cleveland teams up with Michael
from DC and they change all the light bulbs.
