[TANGO-L] Another female view of closed eyes
The comment about "pretty faces" had nothing to do with the interior experience of the follower, but was simply another attempt to put down non close embrace dancing. When I close my eyes it can mean many things. Could be, I'm comfortable with my partner and trust him. Could be, I'm not comfortable with him and find his lead unclear. Maybe, because I'm pretty sure that nothing much is going to happen. Hopefully, because something new and exciting is happening in this particular leaders close embrace and I don't want to miss it! Or, because this particular song positively transports me! I shut them when I "trust" the navigation of the room that night, otherwise I keep them open. When I dance in a very open embrace, my face doesn't necessarily become any more "tight and straight" than it would in any other embrace if I were focused and dancing challenging options that I'd never experienced. Don't let a serious focused expression belie the thrill of the ride and a "pretty" face could simply mean that the followers feet were fatigued and she was grateful for a simple nonchallenging dance. A furrowed brow could be the way that particular follower listens and a sweet smile could reflect her feelings about the leader as a man in whom she's personally interested and have absolutely nothing to do with his vertical dance.
I have be subscribing for a couple of weeks. All this carping is really too much. Generalizations and opinions offered not as insight, but to wound and denigrate are never appreciated and seldom offer much truth. Astrid, please flirt with Derik using personal email.
Sergio & Burak, thanks very much for your recent interesting and generous comments on tango styles.
