Sounds fine to me (though I usually give a big smile, but that just
reflects my personality).

The only problem I have with the cabeceo in the States is when it's
used as an affectation, not as a reflection of the social situation.
There is one lead here who "trains" follows in the cabeceo, and they
laugh about it (behind his back) because the social situation here
doesn't call for it. Direct invitations and outstretched hands are
the norm and are what most are comfortable with. Perhaps in the
States, the social chatter is just as important to people as the
dancing. (Is it the other way around in Buenos Aires?)

Avoiding eye contact in the cabeceo is great, but I don't think it's
exclusive to the cabeceo.
