Frank Sasson, a professional interpreter and translator, sent me the
translation I had made after corrections introduced by him. His feeling is
that my translation is not exact. He also politely ask me to post his
translation.
Here it is:
Belgrano sesenta once? Belgrano sixty eleven?
Quisiera hablar con Renee... I would like to talk to Renee...
No vive alli?... No, no corte...Doesn't she live there?..No, don't
hang up..
Podria hablar con Ud.? Could I talk with you **?

My intention was not to make a literal translation, word by word but a free
translation; one where some words could be added or 'translocated', changed
in order, with the object of obtaining more clarity at the same time as
remaining faithful to the original meaning.
With respect to the last phrase, for instance; if I were writing in
Castilian, I would say ''soy ciego...perdoneme...''
(I am blind... forgiveme...) but in English I like it better ''forgive me...
I am blind...'' The change in meaning is very subtle or nil.
I am aware that my translation will be read by subscribers conversant with
both languages who might have a different opinion than mine.
Frank was able to remove all the words by me added with little change in
general meaning.
Tango lyrics reflect sociological and philosophical conditions and belief of
people in certain place during certain period.
The analysis of these lyrics bring to light those conditions and bilief.
''Charlemos'' deals with the terrible isolation of a man, due to his
blindness. Man who attempts to fulfill his need for love, talking to a
stranger on the phone; knowing that he will never be able to see or meet
her, for he is, one could say, to proud to impose his handicap on a healthy
woman.
In modern times when isolation is common in other countries; men spend
large amounts of money talking on the phone to
female strangers, more due to loneliness than to sexual perversion. In
Argentina where all social diseases spread by the Global Economy to the
''emergent markets'', are adquiring epidemic proportions; isolation is not.
This undoubtely due to the strong support provided by family and
friends.Unfortunately this immunity should not last very long either.

Dear List,
We are looking for tangos (milongas or valses) that mention Carnaval--so
far, with only 1/2 hour research, we have thought of Carnaval, Cascabelito,
Siermpre Carnaval, Siga el Corso & Carnaval de Antaqo. Also any suggestions
of recordings of any Carnaval tangos would be helpful. Thank you all for
any ideas !
