One suggestion would be to "tack" often just to have a view
of the surrounds :-)
If they dont press too hard but just hold it there gently, I would
think there may be some good effects as well -- the face
perhaps could be used to lead just like the chest. Except that
it requires less effort on the part of the leader. And for those
who look on(some may prefer not to watch this and hold
their arms across their eyes as if they are watching something
forbidden;-), it could be more like magic since the follower
seems to expect the move even before the leader has actually
lead as the chest lead is a little bit later than the face -- just
a thought...

Dear Steve,
You made me laugh out loud. I think you wouldn't need the adjustment for
crowding at ballroom events. At least in the ones I have attended in the
past few years the BPR is higher than in our Argentine tango events. A
floor full of nothing but couples dancing extensive (and expansive) set
patterns. Of course, the worst offenders tend to be the ones who
compete...

Because ballroom events are typically less
crowded than milongas, the ballroom events would have a lower BPR.
Hence, the BPR should be adjusted for crowding, possibly by
dividing by the number of couples per square meter. ;-)

Hola All,
I was taught a couple of tricks regarding navigating
around the dance floor (i.e. floorcraft) that I find
useful:
1) never step backward against LOD - almost certainly
someone is there.
2) try to avoid stepping side right - you can't see
because your partner's head is in the way.
3) save the stationary figures for the corners - other
dancers can more easily pass you
4) only go backwards in LOD if you trust your partner
to stop you if the path is blocked - she can see
These rules-of-thumb really helped me, because I was
experiencing too may BPR.
