You are at a milonga. After watching you dance, a lady says to you "You move
like a panther".
After some further dancing, another lady says to your partner "You move like
a swan".
Two questions:
1. Is either statement (or both) complimentary ?
2. If yes, which would you, as a leader, take as the greater compliment to
you ?
And, yes, there is a point this enquiry.

Dear Laurie and others:
Both a panther and a swan move gracefully, but a panther has a
seemingly powerful walk that might be considered more masculine than
the seemingly gentle movement of a swan on a lake or in the air.
This comment is from the distant observation that creates stereotypes,
however. Susan (my dance partner and wife) once lived in a house that
backed up to a river that was graced with wild swans. She claims the
swans were quite aggressive in their movement, even to the point of
walking up steps to people's back doors, then knocking with their
beaks and honking loudly.
All in all, I would prefer to walk like an panther and swim and fly
like a swan than vice versa.

I would like to invite anyone who has a web page
pertaining to tango happenings, to view the
"galleries" of dance/tango graphics available on the
web page noted below. I do not have independent
control of this web page, but it depicts a few of the
reproduction antique tango graphics I have for sale.
If you think linking this web page address would be
potentially of interest to your readers, I invite you
to link or note it on your web page. Though I offer
these for sale, I collect them with even more
enthusiasm, and find they meet with universal
enthusiasm from Argentine and non-Argentine fans
alike! It would please me if more people could just
enjoy seeing them. They're really a lot of fun to
look through, but even more fun to search the corners
of the world (and Buenos Aires) for the originals,
which I reproduce. I will add images monthly!
Look for them at:
www.havetodance.com/vintagedanceimages/
Enjoy!!
All images are from antique dance postcards and sheet
music, many from Argentina.

I resoundingly second Dan's statement. I had classes from L&A and Gabriel
at Michael & Luren's Santa Fe Tango Retreat this past June and can
personally attest to the wonderful skills, teaching abilities and
personalities of these young tangueros. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
The four of them are scheduled to teach at Santa Fe 2000 Tango Retreat.
