Darn it! I knew I had it wrong! .... I thought the way to start learning
tango was to get the hat and the scarf.
Sorry Lois, I couldn't resist ;-)

Hola tangueros y tangueras,
On the very nicely done Forever Tango links page
http://www.showgate.com/tango/links.html, here's what they say about Rob
Nuijten's "Go Tango World-Wide" page:
****************
"An extrordinarily comprehensive Tango link page from Amsterdam that
literally spans all seven continents. This site also provides answers to
e-mailed tango questions. Rob Nuijten has designed and compiled what is
truly the "biggest and best updated Argentine Tango dance link page on
the web." Bravo!"
****************
Go Tango World Wide: http://www.xs4all.nl/~disegno/tango/links.html
If you visit the site and find that a link to your town's tango argentino
website is missing, email Rob Nuijten with the URL and a short describtion of
your site. His address is disegno @xs4all.nl.
Remember to include in your message the city, state or province, and name of
webmaster.
(Please don't send Rob link-lists, because Go Tango World Wide already covers
99%
of the tango links in the world.)
I'll see you at the milongas of the world.

Let me tell you that $800 a month for an apartment at Rivadavia y Medrano

Subject: Tango in Mexico City?
Hello,
I am forwarding this edited request from a student and tango
dancer who will be spending at least Spring Term in Mexico. Those who can
help please reply directly to her email address.
Would you mind putting a message on the list for me asking if any
one knows if there is a tango community in Mexico city or Queretaro. You
could even include my e-mail address in the message. I would really
appreciate it.
Thank you,
Jonathan Thornton

Dear Barbara,
Firt I want to tell you that I totally agree with your commentaries and I
appreciate the way you brought a sense of perspective to the erroneous
perception that a few promoters around the country seem to have about the
San Francisco Bay Area.
It is in those individuals communities where the problems exist, and all I
can guess is that, by "pointing" the finger to the Bay Area, there may feel
justified in the actions they may have taken to contribute to the factional
state of those small communities.
I wouldn't discount either the envy and jealousy element of human nature
that blindfolds those who have been to the Bay Area and enjoy the results of...
>Since, beginning in 1986, there have been at least a half
>dozen teachers here; for many years now several dozen, there has never been
>a single teaching style or philosophy in tango in the Bay Area, always a
>choice.
Valorie and I have traveled extensively since February 1998 speaking wonders
about "our" homebase and many times we felt very proud to hear positive
commentaries about the Bay Area, our activities, our diversity, our choices
and our zest for Tango dancing from people who accepted the invitation to
come, visit and enjoy the choices offered here every day of the week.
This has been in harsh contrast with the perceived lack of tolerance and
cooperation, and sometimes outright despise among local "teachers" that we
have encountered in places in the Midwest, and the East Coast. The pettiness
of their behavior is deplorable and not worth to be made public.
>In SF information is widely dispersed about all activities, by BA Tango, by
>Polo, by TangoMan and others, and everyone feels welcome at all milongas and
>events
Indeed, this simply statement says it all.
It shows respect and consideration for people's intelligence and freedom of
choice. It shows the character of a grown up community that has been a
heaven for Argentine Tango way before the "performance" craze invaded many
small communities.
Above all, it shows the unselfishness of those involved in the promotion of
Tanco activities to put their personal priorites behind the primary
objective of insuring that everything Tango is given an equal opportunity.
>Anyway, rest assured that most of the milongueros in the Bay Area do not
>consider ourselves factionalists, but do spend almost all our time and
money >tangoing without worrying about who is who.
I'll dance to that!
Tangazos,
TangoMan
P.S. This Saturday there will be one of those milongas where everybody is
welcomed and pampered with the best music, a unique atmosphere and the
company of great dancers.
449 Powell St., 3rd floor in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square,
starting at 9:30 PM. It is only $5.

Hello,
I don't know how I did it but I didn't include the email address
for the student seeking tango in Mexico City or Queretaro. I think I
believed that because I Cc'd the post to her it would be in the header.
Please email information to Ione at this address:

My apologies to all. Thank you,

Heads turned as she entered the plush lobby of The Mark Hopkins Hotel. Time
shifted to a genteel era when American innocence was tempered by World War
II. She was bathed in the soft focus of an old movie, revealing myriad
shades of grays, whites and blacks. Dreamy Casablanca or a noir classic
sharply etched against a back drop of fog drenched streets. She stepped into
the mirror lined elevator and adjusted the veil on her smart cocktail hat.
Arriving on the 19th floor, she snapped her compact shut with a confident
click, and strode off the elevator, her shapely legs encased in seamed
stockings. "Table for one"? asked the swarthy maitre'd.
She nodded, and as she followed him into the nightclub, clouds of Chanel
Number Five left a perfumed wake to swoon in. The room was lighted for
romance, well appointed with comfortable striped chairs, drowsy palms
casting mysterious shadows and a wooden dance floor the color of a well used
and expensive piece of luggage. The waiter appeared out of the shadows and
placed a perfect pink drink in a martini glass in front of her. "Good
evening Madame, here is your usual cocktail." She smiled, and grasped the
slim stem of the glass in her gloved hand and brought the glass to her ruby
reds lips that barely hovered below the veil of her hat. "Thank you. It's
perfect." As she looked down at her drink, a masculine hand appeared at eye
level.
She looked up, and there he was, impeccable in officer's Navy whites. Funny
how the war made men look instantly elegant in their uniforms. She scanned
the room discreetly, seeing that the civilian male population had on their
version of nightclub uniforms, dapper suits and ties, a well tilted fedora
and of course the classic tuxedo. She fixed her gaze on the hand, then the
arm, then the face. "Are you asking me to Tango"? The five piece orchestra
had just swung into her favorite Tango, "Oblivion." He took her hand, and
raised her smoothly from her chair and into his embrace. "Darling", he
whispered, as they melted onto the dance floor crowded with the best dressed
and the best dancers this side of Buenos Aires.
Please join your hosts Alberto and Valorie and the orchestra Strictly Tango
for "Milongueando en el cuarenta" (Dancing in the 40's) on Monday, March 29,
at The Top of The Mark, One Nob Hill, San Francisco. Complimentary Tango
Class given by Alberto and Valorie at 7:30-8:30 PM. Dancing to the orchestra
Strictly Tango starting at 8:30 PM ($6. cover charge), with breaks of
recorded music from the Golden Age of Tango selected by Tangoman. Dress up!
