Sorry for the late reply ... anyway:
Don't be dissapointed, but Juliette Binoche will not dance in "Alice &
Martin". You can only see her playing (?) the violin in a
tango-quartetto, from which I only recognized the contrabassisto, who
usually plays with the Mossalini- (father and/or son) -orchestras.
"Alice et Martin" is NOT a tango-film. There is some tango-music, and
one phrase, where Binoche reflects philosophically about
tango/pain/eros/etc., that's all. I'm not going to rewrite my review in
english, so just let me say, it's not bad at all, but I've seen better
works of Techine. As it is a small european film, who maybe even doesn't
find its audience here, so I doubt that it makes it to the US. But maybe
Techine is known enough to find a distributor.
Good luck searching...!

Subject: Interesting Book ... and more
There is an interesting book out with essays by several authors
The Passion of Music and Dance: Body, Gender, and Sexuality
Edited by William Washabaugh
Published in 1998 by Berg (Oxford, New York)
The essays explores the popular passionate musical styles, particularly
flamenco, Argentine tango, and the Greek rebetika. Among the authors is
also Marta Savigliano.
Another note:
Thank You All who came to Ithaca this past weekend. We had tangueros
visiting us from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, NYC, Cleveland, Buffalo,
Albany, Rochester, Scranton, and Binghamton. If you are curious what
happened last weekend, check:
http://lancelot.bio.cornell.edu/matej/tango/winterfest.html
Yet another one...
On March 13th we will have our 1st TangoMarathon [Milonga from 9pm till
9am...], following Eric Jorissen example from Nijmegen. It will be a bit
out of Ithaca, in the countryside... Check my page for details.
Best wishes,

In search of a lost dream
of an unknown country
An experienced dream, a found dream
I've been to this country
I've been embraced in your arms
but still you're lost to me
In the way our heartsease is lost to all of us
children of grief, of sorrow,
of loneliness, of slaps and smacks
Somewhere my heart sings
my soul is loved
my terror is known
And gone. Lifted in your arms
and giving you my embrace
We danced.
In a lost dream in an unknown country
I go to dream with you again tonight.

Think about this:
They meet in a club. Dancing salsa with other people, they finaly
dance together. They meet, first pleasures of an innocent seduction.
They dance alone on each other's embrace. They dance bossa nova.
They meet on the bed. They dance milonga. Loss of innocence.
They meet deeper. They dance tango. Innocence and smiles are lost. Pleasure
is now silent and penetrating.
They cannot live together but cannot live apart either. They dance flamenco
together.
They break apart. They fight in flamenco.
They are seperate.
The man goes drinking and dances zeibekiko by himself.
The woman dances cifteteli with other men.
A history of a postmodern couple told with dances.

Is it just my house cats or do other folks cats enjoy tango? I brought
home a new CD - Piazzolla's _Zero Hour_ - and my cats seemed to really
enjoy it. They hung out in the living room swishing their tails to the beat.
Happy trails,

Cats like cats music...did you know that Piazzolla's knick name was "Gato",
because his way of walking, Troilo gave him this nick name.
So. Enjoy the cats...
