To avoid the >situation where a follower leans on you to far, don't be something that can >be leaned on! If you don't present a frame that is suitable for the >follower to lean on (to this degree), you won't get leaned on in an >uncomfortable way. > >Often this is solved by presenting a more forward frame on your own, >meeting your partner in the middle: > > /\ > >rather than remaining very upright and becoming a leaning post: > > |\ > >HTH I should have been more clear in my first posting. The problem is not so much with leaning as with putting weight. By putting weight, I mean the vertical component...it is as if one is being pinned down or is dancing on a sticky floor. It is not the horizontal forward push from the follower. The situation is such that, for the leader, moving back is also as difficult as moving forward. This would not be the case if the follower was simply pushing the leader back with the lean so that it could be corrected with a counteracting forward lean by the leader( which brings to mind a snapshot from sumo wrestling :-). As far as I can imagine, it is not possible for the leader to do the same thing even if he wanted to. While the follower can put arms around the back and weigh down on the shoulders, the leaders hold is in the back near the shoulder balde and it is more geared towards pulling someone up rather than pushing down. It is like a child holding the mother around the neck and weighing her down while the mother herself holds the baby up by having her hand around the back and more or less near the shoulder blade and pulling up. It is possible for the follower to lean with full body but without putting weight up to some point and beyond that by leaning only the upper body. This is even welcome and convenient for the leader if the follower happens to be much taller than the leader. I guess, one of the reasons why the weight is so effectively put on the leader could be because of the way palm is turned inward gripping and pulling down the leader. Perhaps if it is turned outward (away from the leader, towards the audience), the pulling might decrease. And I think it even looks more beautiful(so it is potential win-win situation, as business people might put it ). Whether it works, I will know only when it happens again. Sometimes the weighing down is across the back with the whole arm --and this may not get sovled this way. rajan.

The view from the front windows could be very nice. It is very close to the Club Espanol (where most of the CITA events take place). I stayed there for the last time about 4 years ago. It is old, the rooms are of different size, private bath, clean, good service. The cost then was U$S 80-90 per night.

The birth day of the famous singer Carlos Gardel. The celebration of the "Music of the City of Buenos Aires", started last Thursday and will end today Sunday. Many foreign tourists took part of this celebration organized by the Government Of The City with multiple Tango events. Singers, dancers, actors, historians, appeared in the streets, amphitheaters, bookstores and even in the shopping centers. The hole city sang and danced till very late last night. The singer, Adriana Varela, performed in a public park, (parque Centenario), works of Enrique Cadicamo; the last of the great lyricists of tango, who died last week at age 99. The main attraction, last night, was the street dance in Avenida Corrientes and around the Obelisk. The Singer Alberto Castillo sang a few of his favorite tangos with the orchestra of Julio Dragone and the dancer Miguel Angel Zotto (Tango x2). The company " El Galpon de Catalinas" appeared with its 170 members dressed and driving cars of the beginning of the century, to invite the general public, young and old, to dance in the street and join in the celebration. Dances were also held in most of the 80 tango clubs of Buenos Aires.

We were relegated to an open deck with 20 knots winds the first night along with a pitching deck made it very... shall we say interesting. After some complaints to the responsible ship personnel, we were allowed to dance after the last show in the main lounge usually by midnight. Thanks, for the "boom box" providing our music. If you decide to go on this cruise next year, be sure to ask hard questions on every details of the package to the promoter. Some problems brought to the attention of the promoter were dismissed, only to be corrected on the last day of class after a rather ugly scene, I will not go into any details. Later a meeting with the promoter and the cruise participant culminated into some good feedback that were noted and we were assured that corrective actions would be taken. Happy tango, Guy

Some problems brought to the > attention of the promoter were dismissed, Snip Thanks Guy for the heads up on this cruise. I was wanting to go on this type of event but could not do it because of schedule conflicts. The whole idea of a Tango cruise is very appealing and the promotion was very seductive. How disappointing to hear about the lack of an appropriate milonga space and music system / DJ. I would have expected a rather elaborate venue with all the luxuries available to the rest of the passengers. You said "mixed feelings about the organization of the event by the promoter", I take it that you were happy with the instruction, the other participants, the rest of the ships amenities, etc.? From reading the promotional material I would have imagined a cruise pretty much devoted to tango music (I guess that's naive in my part). I guess that most of the other so-called dance cruises could suffer from the same type of problems. Has anybody else had experience with this or other types of dance cruises? I would appreciate hearing from other participants. I would really like to participate on something like this but certainly not if it is a substandard event. I do remember taking a rather cheesy and totally bogus "party cruise" while in the Bahamas. What a joke! an uncomfortable trip in a boat loaded with drunks with horribly loud, blaring, awful music (distorted noise coming from over-driven speakers) to a slummy looking beach where we were abandoned for several hours to be fed by surly natives some fairly plain chicken and rice dish (and not much of it) and apparently to swim and play in a sea weed filled, trashy, non sand, beach with out even benches to sit on or shelter from the sun, let alone clean bathrooms or any other amenity. Of course, they were very free with the rum punch (they served it continuously). I guess "caveat emptor" comes to mind. Manuel
