Not a single step - everything is the same no matter what show or movie he is in, Juan Carlos never changes anything!!! I recently saw TA on Broadway (somewhat disappointing, perhaps due to the hype), and I did find the performance of Copes somewhat stiff and at times hesitant; so if he has indeed been doing the same thing for 40 years, it didn't show... and Maria Nieves seemed to be equally baffled (and/or saddled with a visibly sore dorsal area) by her legendary partner, as she sleepwalked her way through an uninspired routine. However I won't pretend to be equipped to compare his choreography of today with that of yesteryears as I was not around 40 years ago as do I think anyone who calls himself Tangostud was either. It takes two to tango. :-) To quote Ann Landers, "people can't walk all over you like a doormat if you don't lay down first". To avoid the situation where a follower leans on you to far, don't be something that can be leaned on! If you don't present a frame that is suitable for the follower to lean on (to this degree), you won't get leaned on in an uncomfortable way. Often this is solved by presenting a more forward frame on your own, meeting your partner in the middle: /\ rather than remaining very upright and becoming a leaning post: |\ HTH jc

It seems to me that indeed he repeats his "La Cumparsita" choreography step-for-step, no matter who his partner is. At the same time, he always seems very elegant and nearly-perfect in his execution of the steps. Sincerely, Silvia Borelli.
