Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 11:23:52 -0700 From: Linda Valentino <LindaValentino @PRODIGY.NET> Subject: Carlos & Alicia; Gachi and Sergio; Nestor and Patricia Ray I am setting up tours for Carlos Copello and Alicia Monti, Gachi Fernandez and Sergio Cortazzo and Nestor and Patricia Ray, and there are a few openings in their schedules that I need to fill. Carlos and Alicia are available various dates between October 23 and December 15. They are well known as a performing couple (the only couple to have danced in all four of the major tango shows of the past ten years--Tango Argentino, Tango X 2, Una Noche De Tango, Forever Tango). They are also fine teachers of salon style tango (which they dance in close embrace) milonga and vals. Carlos is also well known as one of the greatest of his generation of milongueros. He has tremendous musicality and understanding of how to dance the phrases. Alicia has a fine eye for detail and her women's technique class, which focuses a great deal on balance, is a killer. If there are teachers or other advanced couples who want choreography, they can teach that as well. Alicia has been studying English for the past few years and does very well in it, although she is a little shy. Gachi and Sergio are available various dates from November 1 to December 10. They are fine young dancers who have performed in several shows, including Tango X 2 and Una Noche De Tango. They are proteges of Mingo and Esther Pugliese, and both have extensive training in ballet and modern dance. Gachi has been dancing tango for more than 15 years. She started her tango instruction at the age of 15 by going to the milongas every night, and she quickly became a terrific social dancer. She began her formal instruction with Gustavo Naveira, then later studied for many years with Mingo and Esther. Sergio also studied with Gustavo and other masters in addition to Mingo and Esther. They are very good teachers--very detail- and technique-oriented, and very adamant about teaching a body (as opposed to hand) lead. They can teach salon and milonguero style, milonga and vals. They can also teach choreography for the more advanced dancers who want that sort of material. Sergio speaks English. Nestor and Patricia Ray are available in February 2001 and July 9 - October 2001. I just had them here in L.A. a few months ago and they were a delight. Nestor is a "milonguero's milonguero" who has been dancing tango for almost 50 years. Their forte is milonguero style tango, milonga and vals, and they emphasize musicality and floorcraft. Their classes were great fun and people felt that they learned a lot. It was really wonderful to look at the people at the end of each class and see everyone dancing pretty darn well--even the real beginners. Patricia speaks some English. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in bringing any of these couples to your city. They have authorized me to negotiate terms for them. Thanks very much, Linda Valentino

Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 17:32:50 -0500 From: Karen Whitesell <kglass @MNTVERNON.NET> Subject: NA-C:You're invited! Sorry this is so late, my new email address was mispelled in my first attempt to post. Dear Friends, You are cordially invited to my first milonga at Murray's, Sat., October 21 in Mt Vernon, Missouri. I have asked Daniela and Armando to officially usher in tango to Southwest Missouri. They give a great performance tango and are excellent teachers of social tango. ( And, I wanted them to see their picture in glass.) If you're unfamiliar with them or their work, type in Daniela and Armando at Yahoo and see 1030 articles of their accomplishments. My plan is to start on Oct. 13th during the festival of Apple Butter Making Days, luring the crowds into Murray's with a tango show and brief introductory lesson. The festival lasts the weekend and hopefully I can sign up lots of people for nightly group lessons during the week. The week's classes and practicas will culminate in a Grand Tango Ball on Sat night the 21st for tango participants and invited guests, that's you. Here is where we need to show what a real milonga is like. Here is where I need your help. All will be beginners and you have been there. You are welcome to attend the classes. You can be volunteer assistants or practice your basics. If you are a beginner, "Come on down." Hopefully in the future I can offer Tango home lodging, but for now the motel rates aren't too bad. They will be booked for the Apple Days, but should be available after the 15th. McCanse House B&B (newly restored ginger bread house, nice) $69-79 417-466-4867 www.MCCANSEHOUSE.COM Super Eight (Brand new) 417-461-0230 $40 plus tx. Discounted rate Free Continental breakfast/ indoor pool/ 7pm popcorn social Comfort Inn (looks new but 4 years old) 417-466-4511 $66 per night (discounted rate) Free continental breakfast, indoor pool, Jacuzzi The Walnuts Motel 417-466-2963 $28 per night (very big rooms, and very clean, just old, my pick for the money) There are others, but these are the ones I personally checked. Take note of the new e-mail address, and write for more information. But not yet, I'm still working on scheduling and pricing, and catering, and cabinets, and moving. Yikes. If you come for the first weekend during Apple Days, we just might have a street dance, SanTelmo style, for the 60,000 people watching.
