Hello Tango Alfresco Milongeros
San Francisco's HIT AND RUN TANGO ALFRESCO MILONGA
cordially invites you to an alfresco Tango happening
MAIDEN LANE IN SAN FRANCISCO
with
Dale Meyer and his Live Tango Band
STRICTLY TANGO
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2000
Hours 1 til 3 PM
St. Francis Hotel after for drinks and laughs and MORE TANGO
On Sunday, OCTOBER 8, 2000 (weather permitting), a HIT AND RUN
MILONGA will be held from 1PM to 3PM at Maiden Lane between Grant and
KearnyStreets (near Union Square) in San Francisco. This is the same
location
as the last Hit and Run Milonga.
Dale Meyer and his Strictly Tango band will provide the live music.
As many of you know, Maiden Lane is closed to auto traffic so we can
dance in the street and on the sidewalk. Many tourists and others will
be in the area so an audience should develop.
Our object is to create a 1920's like Buenos Aires street milonga scene
so we ask that some of you (those who may wish) come in period dress
(women in headbands, perhaps box hats, feathers, whatever - - men in
double-breasted suits, hats, whatever). Of course, any dress is
acceptable. As to the "run" in HIT AND RUN, the "run" part is that
(those who survive) intend to escape to the St. Francis Hotel for drinks
and laughs after, AND ALSO MORE TANGO, all to the beautiful live piano
music of Alberto. As the St. Francis Hotel holds a very nice English Tea
on Sunday afternoons in the beautiful Compass Rose Room, people there
are often well dressed (for us the English Tea part is optional). The
afternoon should be a lot of fun.
RESERVATIONS - The St. Francis Hotel has requested that we (each party)
call to reserve a table. It seems after the last Hit and Run we
overwhelmed the hotel staff in the Compass Rose Room with more than
sixty members of our dance group attending the afternoon high tea. The
hotel is happy to have us but they would like to know we are coming so
they can properly staff the room with waiters and have sufficient food
on hand so as to provide excellent service.
Donation - A $2.00 per person donation for the band will be appreciated.
Parking - Inexpensive parking is available at the Sutter/Stockton
garage.
Dance surface - The street is asphalt, but the surface is fairly good,
with the exception of several minor potholes (just kidding).
However, it is suggested you leave your best dance shoes at home.

Subject: MISC: 78rpm tango recordings for sale
A milonguero in Buenos Aires wants to sell his collection of 78rpm
recordings of the orquestas of the 1940s and 1950s. He has hundreds of
them. Many are not available on compact disc.
You may contact me when you are coming to Buenos Aires.

RESERVATIONS - The St. Francis Hotel has requested that we call (each
table group) for table reservations to insure that we will be seated
promptly upon arrival. At the last Hit and Run we arrived at the Compass

overwhelmed the hotel staff. The hotel would like to welcome us with
good service and food, and as this requires them to put on extra waiters
and secure sufficient food for our needs, they need some idea of how
many of us to expect. THE HOTEL REQUESTS THAT WE CALL FOR TABLE
RESERVATIONS NO LATER THAN SATURDAY. OCTOBER 7, 2000 FOR OUR INDIVIDUAL
REQUIREMENTS. Failure to do so may mean that you will be required to
wait for a table. Please call the St. Francis Hotel at 415-397-7000 and
ask to be connected to Compass Rose Room reservations.
Donation - As the band is playing for tips only, a $2.00 per person
donation for the band will be appreciated.

Subject: Marcelo y Yanina in Minneapolis/St.Paul
Steve Lee's Twin Cities Tango organization will be sponsoring Marcelo
and
Yanina
in the Twin Cities (Mpls / St. Paul, Minnesota), holding workshops on
the
weekends of Sept 30 / Oct 1 and Oct 7 and 8 and private lessons during
the
week.
Their private lessons are almost sold out but there is some open space
in the
workshops. They are very popular in the Twin Cities because of their
wonderful
teaching ability and style and the fact that people can use on the dance
floor
what they are taught. Anyone interested in the workshops can check
Steve's
website at http://i.am/tctango
