Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 10:04:22 -0700 From: Linda Valentino <LindaValentino @PRODIGY.NET> Subject: NA-W: Juan Carlos Copes in Los Angeles! THE LEGENDARY JUAN CARLOS COPES! Friday, September 22 (8 - 9:30 p.m.) & Tuesday, September 26, (8:15 - 9:45 p.m.); $30 per person, per class Academy 331 530 N. La Cienega (1/2 block south of Melrose) West Hollywood The Maestro makes a rare Los Angeles appearance to attend the "Dance on Film Awards," for which he is nominated for his choreography for Carlos Saura's Oscar-nominated film, "Tango" (he also co-starred). We are delighted that he has agreed to teach two classes for us. Maestro Copes is arguably the most famous tango performer in the world. He is also a remarkably beautiful social dancer, having learned his craft in the milongas of his youth. In our humble opinion, he possesses one of the most amazing upper bodies of any man in tango. Just to watch him is an invaluable learning experience. The maestro will focus on his special brand of technique and elegance for the social floor. Recently voted in a poll of more than 12,000 Buenos Aires residents as the greatest tango dancer of the 20th Century, Juan Carlos Copes is known as the father of performance tango or "tango ballet." His credits and awards as a professional dancer are too numerous to list, but he is perhaps best known in this country as the star and principal choreographer of "Tango Argentino." Through his many shows, movie and television performances, he has served as tango's ambassador to the world. He is truly one of Argentina's national treasures. Don't miss this rare opportunity to study with a living legend of tango! Juan Carlos Copes will also be our special guest at Salon Recuerdo on Thursday, September 21. Come and help us welcome the Maestro to Los Angeles--8 p.m. to midnight, Culver City Masonic Lodge, 9635 Venice Blvd. (between Overland and Main/Bagley). $10 per person includes dancing to the greatest orchestras of the "Golden Age of Tango" and refreshments For more information, see our website at www.apurotango.com, or call (323) 650-0509.

Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 16:03:26 -0800 From: "Richard T. Simoni, Sr." <rtssr @BATNET.COM> Subject: NA-W: Update Hit and Run Milonga San Francisco Hi All, In the way of an update: San Francisco's HIT AND RUN MILONGA cordially invites you to a Tango happening MAIDEN LANE IN SAN FRANCISCO with Dale Meyer and his Live Tango Band STRICTLY TANGO SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2000 Hours 1 til 3 PM St. Francis Hotel after for drinks and laughs and MORE TANGO On Sunday, September 10, 2000 (weather permitting), a HIT AND RUN MILONGA will be held from 1PM to 3PM at Maiden Lane between Grant and Kearny Streets (near Union Square) in San Francisco. This is the same location as the last Hit and Run Milonga. Dale Meyer and his Strictly Tango band will provide the live music. As many of you know, Maiden Lane is closed to auto traffic so we can dance in the street and on the sidewalk. Many tourists and others will be in the area so an audience should develop. Our object is to create a 1920's like Buenos Aires street milonga scene so we ask that some of you (those who may wish) come in period dress (women in headbands, perhaps box hats, feathers, whatever - - men in double-breasted suits, hats, whatever). Of course, any dress is acceptable. As to the "run" in HIT AND RUN, the "run" part is that (those who survive) intend to escape to the St. Francis Hotel for drinks and laughs after, AND ALSO MORE TANGO, all to the beautiful live piano music of Alberto. As the St. Francis Hotel holds a very nice English Tea on Sunday afternoons in the beautiful Compass Rose Room, people there are often well dressed (for us the English Tea part is optional). The afternoon should be a lot of fun. Donation - A $2.00 per person donation for the band will be appreciated. Parking - Inexpensive parking is available at the Sutter/Stockton garage. Dance surface - The street is asphalt, but the surface is fairly good, with the exception of several minor potholes (just kidding). However, it is suggested you leave your best dance shoes at home. For information, call 650-328-2718
